2011 MAATA Annual Business Meeting Strategic Goal #1: Scope of practice and appropriate terminology Ensure ATs can practice to the fullest extent of their scope of practice. Harmonize state practice acts using common language.

2011 MAATA Annual Business Meeting Strategic Goal #2: Degree requirements and quality of athletic training education programs The identification of the degree associated with professional preparation is within the domain of the individual institutions housing the educational programs. Some baccalaureate programs may choose to transition to an entry level master’s program. Regardless of the degree offered, professional preparation must involve an educational program that is responsive to changes in both curriculum content and professional practice. The baccalaureate degree meets these needs at present.

Bylaws Change Proposal ARTICLE 3 MEMBERSHIP 3.1 Classes of Members. NATA shall have the following classes of Members. The Board of Directors may create categories within each class. (a)Certified Members. Certified members possess current National Athletic Trainers’ Association Board of Certification, Inc. (BOC) certification (ATC) and are in good standing with the BOC. (b)Certified-Retired Members. Certified-Retired Members have resigned certification with the BOC and met the Policies and Procedures Manual requirements for Certified- Retired status. (c)Other Members. Individuals who do not possess BOC certification. fall into the above categories.

Bylaws Change Proposal 3.4 Membership Rights and Privileges. (c)Other Members. Other Members shall have the right to attend the Annual Meeting and Clinical Symposia, the Annual Members’ Meeting, and other national meetings of NATA.. but shall have no voting rights and. Other Members shall have no voting rights, except for non-certified athletic trainers operating legally under their state practice act, who shall have the right to one (1) vote on any matter coming before the Members. Other Members shall not be eligible to serve as Directors or Officers of NATA. Such Members shall have other rights and privileges prescribed by the Board of Directors and set forth in these Bylaws and the Policies and Procedures Manual.

Bylaws Change Proposal ARTICLE (b) Election. Elections shall be conducted in an orderly, efficient, equitable and secure manner. A ballot shall be sent to each Certified Member having voting rights. An election shall not be held if there is only one candidate. The candidate receiving the largest number of votes shall take office as NATA’s President at the next Annual Members’ Meeting.

Bylaws Change Proposal Next Steps and Timeline March 2011 – January 2012 Proposal is presented to districts, which vote on it. January 2012NATA Board votes after district votes are taken. Spring 2012If approved, the bylaws changes are published for 60 days in NATA News before taking effect.

2011 MAATA Annual Business Meeting Board of Certification(BOC) Recertification Fee; An overview

2011 MAATA Annual Business Meeting What is the re-certification FEE? The BOC charges an annual fee to credential holders to cover the cost of maintaining services at the BOC. Historically this fee has been collected by the NATA as part of a member’s annual dues. The NATA in turn pays the BOC on behalf of the membership. This fee currently stands at $14.50/year for NATA members.

2011 MAATA Annual Business Meeting What is changing? As part of an external review the BOC was advised that its’ current procedure of having the NATA collect its re-credentialing fee was not in keeping with industry “best practices”. Further it was recommended that each credential holder pay individually as opposed to the group payment method currently utilized by the NATA.

2011 MAATA Annual Business Meeting What is going to change? Starting in December with the normal renewal cycle members will see more of an ala carte selection process when they renew their membership in the NATA. Members must choose that they wish to have the NATA collect, on the members behalf, the BOC certification fee to receive the discounted price for re- certification. Those NATA members that select to pay the BOC re-credentialing fee during their NATA dues renewal will be charge $34 dollars instead of the $50 charge for non NATA members.

2011 MAATA Annual Business Meeting How will this effect you? District III members currently pay $193/year. This is broken down as $150/year for NATA dues and $43 for district and state dues. This will change for the 2012 dues renewal process!

2011 MAATA Annual Business Meeting A typical invoice for a district III member will look like this: NATA membership$150 BOC re-certification Fee$ 34 District & state dues$ 43 total$227 The NATA will retain the $14.50 it previously collected.

2011 MAATA Annual Business Meeting Rationale: The last time the NATA increased fees was in 2005 for the 2006 year Despite cost saving efforts 2006 dollars don’t go far in 2011 This increased revenue will be used to fund strategic initiatives (Vision Quest)
