Homework ILU newsletter half termly to inform of the curriculum learning. Also on the blog. Home School Books – record contact between school and home in the diaries (if not appropriate in this form, then send an or speak to the class teacher) Daily Reading recorded in diaries – in school daily by class teachers, and LSA. Reading at home is essential to help children progress with reading. ‘Times Table Mountain’- tested weekly, need to complete test correct twice before moving up the mountain. Spellings – Weekly spellings to learn in class with a focus on patterns and sounds. It is helpful for children to practise their spellings at home as well.7 Activities to support reading, spelling and times tables will be sent home. Home learning- an optional termly project to be completed at home with the family. A range of activities throughout the year including research, art and craft, design. An information sheet will be sent home and this will also be on the blog. Library books- Children will have the opportunity to change their library books during reading sessions. Children should have one reading book and one library book.

Timetable Morning routine- Children to come into class promptly and do Start Of Day Activity. Opportunity to speak to class teacher or LSA about any issues. PE - kit/ earrings/ participation and notes ICT - alongside ILU where possible Library – there is an opportunity to visit the library during morning reading sessions. Otherwise, children can change their books before and after school, at break times and during the timetabled ICT slot. Name uniform

Expectations Arriving and leaving- Children to arrive promptly between 8.35 and 8.45 and come into the classroom independently. Children will be brought to the playground at the end of the day at 3.15 Uniform- Green jumper or cardigan, polo shirt, summer dress, grey trousers, skirt etc. Black school shoes Behaviour- Traffic light behaviour system Growing Learners-Collaboration, Resilience, Independence, Creativity and Active Participation House points and praise for effort and progress not attainment Age related expectations Reading – Accelerated reader. Sign reading diaries.

Curriculum Termly overview What are the topics Maths/ English- where possible in a context that fits the topics. English units will be based on a book for each half term and include spelling, punctuation and grammar. There is a strong number focus in Maths.

Autumn Southampton - Geography based unit about where and why cities are built. This topic will include Art Potential trip to Southampton (approx. £16) Horrible Histories Mayflower Theatre trip – 25 th September Anglo Saxons (early law makers) – History based unit, also covers Art and Design and Technology Potential workshop in school with visitor

Spring Pirates from the Past (Vikings): History based unit, Art and Design Technology Taught alongside Anglo-Saxons. Schools Orchestra concert trip (approx. £5) Shakespeare performances in school Iron Boy: Science based unit with Design and Technology Potential trip to Winchester Science Centre (approx. £17)

Summer River Wild: Geography unit, Science and Art Potential trip to Wellow Fishery (no charge) KS 2 production (Year 3 and 4) Food Glorious Food: Geography unit, Art, Design and Technology and PSHE Potential trips to Wellow Village and Romsey/ Waitrose (approx. £5) Potential trip to a Countryside day Minstead Residential (15 th – 17 th June 2016, £167) Trip and Residential costs depend on the number of children in the class.

Other information Parent Helpers – we are always grateful for any help! Screening Tests- carried out at the beginning of the year, monitored throughout for those identified and who we have concerns about Parents Evenings- October and March Please feel free to come and talk or contact me anytime. Water bottles- bring in daily refilled with water. Book bag, rucksack or other suitable school bag.
