The AAC : promoter of the Atlantic Strategy A - Mobilization of the Atlantic Arc Commission –1989 : first step towards an integrated approach for the Atlantic Basin –Acceleration : 2009 (after two other macroregional strategies for the Baltic and Danube) –Council : Action towards the Spanish Presidency –Contact with Member States –European Commission / consultation phases –European Parliament (MEP Alain CADEC : resolution March 2011) –Sectorial organizations Written contributions : contribution documents (technical paper, political paper, questionnaire, answer to the EC consultation, proposals of orientation, etc.)

A/ Strong political project A common history and heritage To respond to the challenges of Atlantic territories The Atlantic sea basin : Asset that unites Atlantic territories Protect and exploit its potential B/ Better coordination among the actors Issues that transcend national borders need a coordinated answer Innovative governance model to be defined A long term governance (not only for the Forum) 7 II. C/ A coherent Atlantic Action Plan The Atlantic Arc Commission already has proposals to make :  Maritime transports (project CFA-EFFIPLAT)  Marine Renewables Energies (project APC)  Coastal tourism and leisure (project NEA2)  Fisheries and aquaculture D/ Strategy connected with available funds From the rule of the “three no” to strategic earmarking To be included in the Common Strategic Framework Pending questions to be answered 8 II. The Atlantic Strategy is crucial to the development of the Atlantic Marine Economy But also to the economic development of the Atlantic area in a wider sense The AAC is the link between the Atlantic Regions, the Member States and the European Institutions The AAC is ready to participate in the Forum and to be the spokesman of the Atlantic Regions 9 Conclusion
