Prohibition 18 th Amendment: Prohibited the manufacture, transport, and sale of alcohol. The supporters of this amendment believed that Prohibition would alleviate societal problems and bolster the economy. However many people disliked this law and still found ways to get access to alcohol. Bootlegging (illegal distribution of liquor) became common and violent lawless erupted. The federal government became unable to enforce Prohibition

Inventions in technology Henry Ford developed the Model T and sold more than 15 million by Ford’s assembly line means of production was the key. The invention of the radio changed America forever. It became a national pastime, and many listeners gathered together to listen to sports, sermons, and news. In 1922 the first movie with sound was made. The movie industry took off and became popular.

The Jazz Age Jazz became a hit in the 1920’s and was being played everywhere in the country Early jazz influences found their first mainstream expression in the music used by marching bands and dance bands of the day, which was the main form of popular concert music in the early twentieth century.

The New Woman Woman received the right to vote after 72 years of struggle. After the 19th Amendment passed, reformers talked about female voters uniting to clean up politics, improve society, and end discrimination. Woman also broke always from the convention roles and persona that they used to carry. This new woman cut her hair, wore make-up, and went to petting parties. She was giddy and took risks. She was a flapper.

Advances in Science Science, medicine and health advanced remarkably during the same period. Albert Einstein was awarded the Nobel Prize in physics in Diphtheria became better controlled in 1923 by newly introduced immunization. Major health breakthroughs included the discovery of Vitamins C and E, penicillin - the first of the modern antibiotics, innovations in immunization, and the discovery of insulin which made the treatment of diabetes possible.
