 SUST Own Fund Project : In 1998 started for establish the fiber optic backbone & was completed on 1999 by own fund. Which was limited to 4 Academic building, 1 Library building & 1 Administrative building.  SAAON Project: Another enhancement of Network bandwidth 100Mbps to Gigabit and ATM within Library and 1 Academic building by the project SONET ATM All Optical Network (SAAON) under Science and Technology ministry in  1st Round Sub-Project of HEQEP-UGC The new Fiber Optic backbone enhancement by introducing state of the art technology with best networking equipments, Established an internationally standard Data Center in the year under the project “Total Computerization of SUST HEQEP, UGC” funded by World Bank.  3rd Round Sub-Project of HEQEP-UGC We are going to enhance & upgrade our network, server & storage capacity. We planned to enhance WiFi facilities at all corner at the campus. The Central Library is going to integrate with the Departmental Seminar Libraries. Campus surveillance system is going to extend in 25 new locations.

There has been developed a hybrid network architecture which involves network of both client server & peer to peer types. Hierarchical Network Topology is used. This is the most common form of network topology in use presently. It divides the network into multiple layers of network. The highest layer is known as core layer The middle layer is known as distribution layer The lowermost is access-layer where computers are attached.

Firewall is used to maintain the security of the network. Firewalls block unauthorized access to or from networks and are often employed to prevent unauthorized Web users or illicit software from gaining access to private networks connected to the Internet. Hardware & software combination (Mikrotik) Layer-7 Protocol detection, Packet Filtering standard firewall also used.

Network management is the operation, administration, maintenance, and provisioning (OAMP) of network systems. Network management is essential to command and control practices and is generally carried out of a network operations center. Network management system give us the full insight of what happens inside the network. It monitor the remote nodes (Access Switches) as well to the servers. We use Solarwinds, Cacti & Nagios in this purposes
