Is God’s government the best? Great Controversy between Christ and Satan Great Controversy between Christ and Satan

“Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a (1) falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; who (2) opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that (3) he as God sitteth in the temple of God, (4) shewing himself that he is God.” 2 Thessalonians 2:3, 4 Satan’s original desire was — “I will be like the Most High” and “I will exalt my throne above the stars of God” Paul warned — Paul warned —

Daniel 7:25 — “And (1) he shall speak great words against the most High, and (2) shall wear out the saints of the most High, and (3) think to change times and laws: and (4) they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time.” Four Accurate Identifying Marks

Prophetic Waymarks Were identified and believed by the Protestant Reformers Daniel 7 accurately identifies the papacy as the antichrist of Revelation Daniel 7 accurately identifies the papacy as the antichrist of Revelation

Ribera’s Views on Prophecy First three chapters of Revelation dealt with only ancient Rome in the Apostle John’s own time (7 churches) Taught that the Antichrist would be a single individual who during a spectacular 3½ year period would be received by the Jews through a covenant promise, rebuild the Jewish temple in Jerusalem, deny Christ, abolish Christianity, pretend to be God, and deceive the world Taught that the trumpets immediately followed the seals

Protestant Reformation Position Since all the characteristics of the prophecies were found in the leadership and doctrines of the church, then the papacy must be the fulfillment of the antichrist prophecy given by Christ in Matthew 24:15 (cf. Daniel 7:8, 24, 25; 11:36; and 2 Thessalonians 2:1-12).

Revelation covers the entire sanctuary service through the descriptions which introduce each section

Some element of the Old Testament is used to describe Christ’s work as our High Priest as each subsequent section is revealed

The primary purpose of the Old Testament sanctuary services was to prefigure Christ’s ministry for sinners

John’s First Vision Christ our High Priest seen among the seven golden candlesticks with seven stars in His hand Rev. 1:13 – 16

John’s First Vision Christ is described in awesome terms which echo the vision Daniel had, as recorded for us in Daniel 7:9, 13

John’s First Vision “Whose garment was white as snow, and the hair of His head like the pure wool: His throne was like the fiery flame, and His wheels as burning fire” Daniel 7:9

John’s First Vision “I saw in the night visions, and behold One like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven...” Daniel 7:13

And I turned to see the voice that spake with me. And being turned, I saw seven golden candlesticks; and in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the Son of Man — Revelation 1:12, 13 And I looked, and behold a white cloud, and upon the cloud one sat like unto the Son of man, having on His head a golden crown, and in His hand a sharp sickle. Revelation 14:14

Nebuchadnezzar saw Christ in the fiery furnace with the three faithful Hebrews and called Him the “Son of God” Daniel 3:24, 25

But he, being full of the Holy Ghost, looked up stedfastly into heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God, and said, Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of Man standing on the right hand of God. Then they cried out with a loud voice, and stopped their ears, and ran upon him with one accord, and cast him out of the city, and stoned him. Acts 7:55-57

“For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.” Luke 19:10

The Seven Churches of Revelation The history of God’s church through time, beginning with the time of the Apostle John and ending with the church at the time of Jesus’ second coming in clouds of glory. This history spans two millennia, from A.D. 31 until the present day.
