Ideas for Increasing Research Activities Research Funding for Faculty –Support of Interdisciplinary Centers –NSF university – industry centers –Relationships with centers at other universities –Visits to industry (seminars, tutorials). –Seed funds for faculty. –Alumni support.

Funding from Government –Faculty contacts and visits to ARPA, ONR, ARL, AF, NASA, DOT, NIST, FAA. –Interdisciplinary proposals. –Generic proposals on emerging technologies –Monitoring of Board Agency Announcements –Invite program directors to campus Visibility for Faculty –Organize IEEE/ACM Conferences on Campus –Opportunities at International Research Labs –Distribution of research reports –Invite Distinguished Colloquia Speakers –Workshops with industry.

Administration Work towards increasing the visibility of faculty and students. –Encourage seminars at other universities, conference participation, program comm/editorial board membership, nomination for awards. Help faculty in finding opportunities for grants from industry and government. Help with team building and large interdisciplinary proposal development.

Executive committee for major decision making and long term plans. Delegate authority and decision making power for various tasks (increase student participation). Spend time in development programs, alumni/industry relations, development of proposals for equipment grants, recruiting minorities and women. Recruiting top notch faculty and timely promotions.

Office to Support Recruitment, Retention, and Promotion of undergraduate students. Undergraduate Resource Center. Timely decision making to meet the requests of faculty. Encourage service to state and community Develop Outreach programs. Develop an environment consisting of Cooperation, Success, Encouragement, Energy, Openness.

Encouraging Students to Pursue Ph.D. –Qualifier exams that encourage. –Research seminars. –Pleasant and productive stay at university. –Update of course content and graduate curriculum to strengthen fundamentals and develop electives based on emerging technology. –Development of teaching laboratories and computer facilities.
