It’s her birthday! I think I kind of like her. So… I would firstly think about what my friend likes. I would think about her hobbies and things that she enjoys doing. Throughout the days leading up to her birthday, I can observe her closely to see if any school supplies need replacing or if she says that she wants to have something. On her birthday, we would go out to eat something delicious. I would invite other students from our class so she would have a chance to become better friends with them. I would give her the present that I bought for her. I would also give her a hand-made card to make the entire present more personal. would / firstly / enjoys doing leading up / need replacing = need / on go out / become (better) friends with hand-made = 수제품

It’s his birthday! I think he is kind of cute. So I want to do something special for him. ( 예 ) Since I have decided to do something special, I’ll try my best to please him somehow. I would firstly make sure he does not plan to do any other things on his birthday. Also, I would be extra careful to keep my plans secret so that he doesn’t even know I’m aware of his birthday. On his birthday, I’ll ask my friends to text him ‘Happy Birthday’ messages. Also, I will tell his close friends to come to the surprise party. I believe that will make him feel very happy and he will begin to realize how much I care for him. For a birthday present, since it is winter now, I will give him a sweater knitted by me. since = because / somehow make sure / extra careful / keep ~ secret be aware of / text (v) /surprise party / knit

I booked a restaurant table for my year-end party a week ago. But the restaurant says there are no seats for me now. What should I do? I would ask to talk to a manager. It is very irresponsible of the restaurant to double book dinner reservations, especially on such an important night. The restaurant should have been more careful when booking seats. I would explain the situation to the manager. I would also remind them that I am a regular customer. If I was a regular customer for three years, I would know many of the people working at the restaurant. I could even be friends with the manager or workers. I would ask to have the next available table. If it is completely impossible to find available seats, I would get a full apology from the restaurant and be promised a big discount for the next time I’m eating at the restaurant. irresponsible of ~ to~ / double book / such a(an) regular customer = 단골손님 / if ~ was ~, ~ would ~ available / discount

I booked a restaurant table for my year-end party a week ago. But the restaurant says there are no seats for me now. What should I do? ( 예 ) I would firstly talk to a manager of the restaurant about the situation. Also, I’ll firmly remind him that I’m a 3-year regular customer and double booking would be the last thing he can do to me. Since it’s the end of the year and it would be almost impossible for me to find another place to eat right now, I would not leave the restaurant and suffer even more. Even if there are no available seats for now, I would patiently wait until I get the next available table. Once I get the table, I would ask the restaurant for the best service they can offer including free drinks and extra dishes so everyone at the table can completely forget about what happened before. firstly / firmly = 분명, 확고하게 suffer / until ~ : 계속적 의미, by ~ : 일시적 의미 including / completely forget about

Freshmen Party or Family Gathering? Which one should I choose? I would try to go to both places. Usually, college parties start and end very late. I would go to the family gathering during the day. I can meet everybody, including my grandma. I can spend time with them and then leave to go to the college party. If it is not possible to do both, I would choose the family gathering. Family is very important and they will be a part of you for your entire life. I would be very disappointed about the freshmen party, but there will always be more parties throughout my college life. There will also be many more opportunities to meet new people. On the other hand, it is difficult for family members to gather together because everyone is busy with their lives. It is a rare opportunity for the whole family to gather, so I would choose to be with them. gathering = 모임 / entire life = 일평생 disappointed about / On the other hand / rare = unusual

Freshmen Party or Family Gathering? Which one should I choose? ( 예 ) It would be great if I can go to both places since college parties usually start and end very late. Basically, I would try my best to go to the party and fulfill my duties as a member of family at the same time. However, if things don’t work out as expected and should I face the difficult situation as the consequence, I would choose to attend the freshmen party. Without a doubt, I know my family will always be there for me for no matter what I do. But the freshmen party is almost like a once in a lifetime occasion to me. It’s obvious I will be so regretful if I miss this great opportunity to pave the way for my wonderful college life. Since my family means a great deal to me, I would make sure they know I love them with all my heart for the rest of life. Especially for my grandma, I would make a call on her to tell her how much I love her before I go to the party. fulfill ~’s duties as ~ / work out / as the consequence regretful / pave the way for / make a call on ~
