PRESENTATION OVERVIEW Typical documents used when pitching to investors Introduction to presentations Elevator Speech 15 minute presentation

TYPICAL DOCUMENTS Entrepreneurs often pitch investors using these documents: Elevator Pitch 1 minute overview of the business concept Executive Summary 3-5 page overview of the business PowerPoint Presentation 15 slide overview of the business plan Business Plan Fully developed strategy to exploit a given market opportunity (available at www.nbif.ca)

PRESENTATIONS Two main types of presentations: Elevator Speech 15 Minute Presentation All presentations must leave investors wanting more information – they are a strong sell Grounded in reality, the presentation projects professionalism – grammar, spelling, diction, illustration & layout must be correct Developed exclusively for investors

ELEVATOR PITCH Used to pique investor’s interest Explanation of the business opportunity in less than 1 min Used for chance encounters & getting the next appointment Characteristics of the Elevator Speech: Must be clear & concise Leave the listener wanting more and asking YOU questions Stressing the benefits, not features Only enough time to focus on important key priorities Using non-technical language Hopefully results in an appointment being offered

ELEVATOR PITCH Challenges: Choose essential points & the right number of topics to present in a timely fashion Sounding natural and keeping the investor interested Requires rigorous thought and preparation Practice! Practice! Practice! Tip: Practice with a family member who is unfamiliar with the topic and see if they understand
