Metro arts © 2015 albert-learning.com The Metro Arts Theatre is a heritage-listed warehouse located in Edward Street in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. It currently operates as performing arts venue Address: Level 2, 109 Edward St, Brisbane QLD 4000, Australia · Current use The Metro Arts building contains two performance venues, the Sue Benner Theatre and the Studio, and currently supports more than 30 creative businesses, individual artist studios and retail outlets.

Metro arts © 2015 albert-learning.com History The site was purchased in 1871 by Caption George Poynter Heath, who erected a warehouse in 1890 and leased it to George Myers & Co, who imported china, glass and earthenware products. In 1992 the building was listed on the Queensland Heritage Register. The theatre emerged as a community arts centre in the mid 1970s, and was purchased by Metro Arts in 2001.

Metro arts © 2015 albert-learning.com METRO ARTS Metro Arts is a unique and robust multidisciplinary organisation dedicated to professional independent artists and their work. Its practice is underpinned by comprehensive venue infrastructure – operations are housed across Metro Arts’ dynamic arts spaces at two locations, Brisbane city and Norman Park, which offer a large gallery, three performance spaces, four rehearsal spaces and 45 artist studios and workspaces. The organization operates under a cultural enterprise model consistent with Metro Arts’ Artistic Vision. A multi-artform incubator for independent practice, Metro Arts provides a platform of infrastructure, mentoring, development and producing support, networks and leadership for artists at all stages of practice, while concurrently promoting new and emerging ideas, forms and practices to the market.

Metro arts © 2015 albert-learning.com EDUCATION Metro Arts’ Education program connects the artists and works developed at Metro Arts to schools and their students. There are many ways for students and their teachers to engage with the artists we work with at Metro Arts. Leading this program is FIRST LOOK. FIRST LOOK brings students and their teachers into the rehearsal rooms and studios of the artists working with us. Be invited to participate in and contribute to a process of performance making. FIRST LOOK is a mutual process – artists have questions to ask of the students and students can challenge the artists about their process.
