Fiction

A book that gives facts or information about a topic

Nonfiction

The letters and/or numbers found on the spine label that can tell us where a book belongs in the library.

Call Number

An index to the library that can tell you where a book is located.

Computer Catalog

The system used to arrange nonfiction books.

Dewey Decimal System

The person who writes the words in a book.

Author

The person who draws the pictures in a book.

Illustrator

The name of the book.

Title

The outside of the book.

Cover

The part between the front cover and the back cover.

Spine

If your book has not been returned on time.

Overdue

The date you should return your book.

Due Date

The lines the computer reads to check out a book.

Barcode

What you should do if your want to check out your book for a 2 nd time.

Renew

The status of a book that has been returned, but is not on the shelf yet.

Shelf Delay

A story about a puzzling crime, a number of clues, and a detective who must come up with a solution.

Mystery

A story that could not possibly happen. It may have animals that talk, characters that are very large or very small, or a completely made up place.

Fantasy

A story that when you read it, it seems like it could really happen.

Realistic Fiction

A realistic story that takes place at some time in the past.

Historical Fiction

A story that uses a scientific possibility today to imagine what might happen in the future. It may involve space travel or a marvelous invention or discovery.

The place where we check out our books.
