Introduction Egypt is in the north east Africa. One of its sides overlooks the Mediterranean and another the Red sea, it borders with Libya, Sudan and the Sinai peninsula. It has over 1,000,000 square Kilometers. It population is over 60 million people. Egypt’s main language is Arabic and its capital city is Cairo.

Landscape Egypt most important feature is the river Nile. It is 6670 kilometres long and it runs through the whole country from north to south. The land on both sides of the Nile is very good for farming. These strips of land are very fertile because when the Nile floods it carries a lot of good minerals into the soil and then obviously because of the irrigation. 95% of the land is a big barren sandy desert. The highest mountain is Jabal Katrinah which is 2637metres high,

Main Industries The main industries in Egypt is the cultivation of cotton and production of oil. The Suez Canal, which is a very convenient passage from the Red Sea to the Mediterranean basin, is also a source of revenue for Egypt. Egypt is famous for its historical sites and a lot of Tourists visit this country.

History Ancient Egyptian civilisation is about 5000 years old. It has made Egypt culturally and historically very rich. Most popular historical sites are the Pyramids at Giza which are situated near Cairo. The Valley of the Kings, which were royalty burial sites at Luxor. And 2 famous temples built by King Ramses II at Abu Simbul.

More information The Egyptians live mostly near the River Nile and therefore this region is heavily populated. About half of the population are called Fellahin who are peasants living on the produce of land. The average family has four or five children. The children start working as soon as they are able to do so. These families usually have a very low income and life is very hard for them. 90 to 94% of the Egyptians are Muslims and the rest are Coptic Christians.
