JANUSZ KORCZAK AND CHILDREN’S RIGHTS Outstanding Polish pedagogue, paediatrician, writer and publicist Founder of the Home for Jewish Orphans (1912) The principles of Korczak pedagogical heritage: The dignity of the child The children’s rights Children's citizenship The Declaration of Geneva, the Declaration of the Rights of the Child and the ideas of Janusz Korczak are the fundamental inspirations for the most important document which currently defends the rights of children: the Convention on the Rights of the Child, adopted at the initiative of Poland. Children - are the future people. So they will only be later, so it is as if they were not here yet. And yet here we are: we live, we feel, we suffer. 2012 – THE YEAR OF JANUSZ KORCZAK The initiative of Ombudsman for Children in Poland The Resolution of the Polish Parliament of September 16, 2011 on the establishment of the Year 2012 as the Year of Janusz Korczak The events organized during the Year of Janusz Korczak include: Promotion of the person of Janusz Korczak Dissemination of the knowledge about the pedagogical ideas (subjectivity of the child, the child's right to respect) Promotion of the awareness of children's rights The involvement of the Polish Ministries, NGOs and other institutions Due to the Year of Janusz Korczak, Polish embassies all around the world prepared many projects in the field of public and cultural diplomacy
