Mizar By: Gloria Noble

Size Mizar’s size a diameter of more than twice that of the sun, and a mass about three times that of the sun. Mizar is known from the Big Dipper.

Temperature The effective temperature is 9600 K (Kelvin).

Color Mizar is a hot white star. Mizar is two suns, Mizar A and Mizar B.

Distance From Our Sun The distance from our sun to Mizar is 78.2 light years.

H-R diagram # The number for the H-R diagram is “5054”

The constellation of Mizar Mizar is in the constellation Big Dipper. Mizar has two planets, known as Mizar A and B. the word “Mizar” means “Horse” in Arabic. Mizar and Alcore are both a member of the Ursa Major Moving Cluster

How was Mizar born and What Cycle is it in? Mizar is in the cycle of Red Giant/ Supergiant.

Information Kelvin- A unit of measurement named after British scientist, William Thomson, Lord Kelvin (1824 - 1907). One Kelvin degree is equivalent to one Celsius degree. The difference between the two temperature scales: All motion within an atom ceases at zero Kelvin (K) -- this point is called absolute zero. Water freezes at zero degrees Celsius, which is approximately 273.16 Kelvin. [ K = C + 273.16] Alcor- the star next to Mizar
