Tests and Quizzes You should expect a weekly Review Quiz. You may use your notes and homework on these quizzes. These points go into the ‘Assignments/Participation’ category. You should expect Benchmark quizzes on a regular basis. These quizzes will be announced at least two days in advance. Notes and calculators may or may not be allowed, depending on the nature of the material. You should expect Cumulative tests on a regular (but less frequent) basis. These tests and will be announced at least two days in advance. Notes and calculators may or may not be allowed, depending on the nature of the material. 9/8/2015Math is awesome!6

Assignments Assignments will be given and discussed daily in class. Normally, answers alone are unacceptable and will not be given credit. Answers must be accompanied by the written work in a neat and orderly fashion! Assignments will be collected or graded in a variety of ways. Late work will be accepted up until the Benchmark quiz (at reduced credit*). No work will be accepted after graded assignments have been returned. * (see next page) 9/8/2015Math is awesome!7

Grades Grades are weighted with cumulative tests counting as 40%, Benchmark quizzes counting as 40%, and assignments/participation counting as 20*% –*5% of the overall quarter grade is Time Management: getting assignments done on time Grading scale is 90%= A, 80%= B, etc. Your two quarter grades will each represent 45% of your semester grade, and the semester exam will count as 10%. 9/8/2015Math is awesome!8

Not everyone will find this class easy, but if you consistently work hard you should be successful. Benchmark quizzes may be retaken, but you must get additional help from a math teacher and make corrections first. The maximum score attainable for a re-take is 80%. No retakes are allowed on Review quizzes or on Cumulative tests. Little extra credit is offered, and not upon request.. 9/8/2015Math is awesome!9

You can find class information on my SharpSchool page. Worksheets will always be posted in Skyward. I also plan to post daily notes from the SmartBoard in Skyward. 9/8/2015Math is awesome!10

Skyward Make sure you have access to Skyward. Grades will not be posted in class. (Please note that the Skyward app doesn’t show all the details of each assignment: log on via the full website to see this important information.) You are responsible for knowing if you have an assignment, quiz, or test missing. 9/8/2015Math is awesome!11

My Expectations 9/8/2015Math is awesome!12

Classtime Be on time. Come prepared. Listen respectfully. Do not bring any distractions to class. Use study time for math. Work together. Ask for help when needed. Utilize the entire class period. Persevere! 9/8/2015Math is awesome!13

Classroom Procedures How to gain Classroom Attention? Hand raised, count down from five. Bell Work: If there is work on the board, the student is expected to start that work at the very beginning of class. Restroom policy, Drinks, Water bottles etc: During work time, not instructional time. End of the hour: Do not line up at the door. I’ll remind you. Materials: Please have all materials for class every day. 9/8/2015Math is awesome!14

9th Grade Team Standard Operating Procedures CELL PHONES/PERSONAL ELECTRONIC DEVICES Cell phones and other personal electronic devices are prohibited during the class hour, unless the teacher has given the student permission. I intend to give a reminder each day at the beginning of class. If a student is using a device inappropriately, I will politely ask them to place it in the “jail” box, where they can pick it up at the end of class. If they refuse, I will politely ask again. If they refuse yet again, I will send them to turn the device in to the Attendance Office. The second time a student has to turn in a device to the Attendance Office, a parent or guardian will be asked to pick it up. 9/8/2015Math is awesome!15

9th Grade Team Standard Operating Procedures TARDINESS Students need to be SEATED in their assigned desks when the bell rings. Tardies will be given for students not seated when the bell rings to signal the start of class. An established pattern of tardiness will result in lunch detention and/or the student being invited to meet with the team teachers to discuss options for future success. 9/8/2015Math is awesome!16

9th Grade Team Standard Operating Procedures FOOD/BEVERAGE Food is allowed in the classroom when a teacher provides it -or- when the teacher grants special permission for students to bring their own. Clear beverages are allowed and highly encouraged to ensure proper hydration. Violations of this policy may result in classes or groups having limited food and/or beverage privileges. 9/8/2015Math is awesome!17

9th Grade Team Standard Operating Procedures LUNCH BUNCH Lunch Bunch is an opportunity for students to seek out extra help with individual teachers and/or get caught up in classes where they have fallen behind. Attendance at Lunch Bunch is student-directed, but can (and will) be suggested by your teachers as a way to assist students who are struggling. 9/8/2015Math is awesome!18

Assignments Complete every assignment to the best of your ability and come prepared with specific questions. Read directions. Show your work. Do not copy answers from the back of the book or other students. Do not do problems on your calculator that are not intended to be done that way. 9/8/2015Math is awesome!19

Academic Integrity Do your own assignments. What does this mean? NEVER give me any reason to doubt your integrity on a test. (Are notes allowed? Are calculators allowed? Is extra time permitted to finish a test? What may you tell other students?) 9/8/2015Math is awesome!20

Academic dishonesty (in any form) will not be accepted. Parents, Team Teachers, and Administration will be notified of any student involvement with academically dishonest behaviors. Alternative opportunities to obtain credit on these assignments may be offered at the discretion of the teacher. DO NOT CHEAT YOURSELF OUT OF AN EDUCATION! 9/8/2015Math is awesome!21

My Commitment to YOU I will make efficient use of class time. I will create carefully prepared lessons. I will do my best to create challenging but fair quizzes and tests. I will provide timely feedback. I will strive to help each student be successful. 9/8/2015Math is awesome!22

Finally… I am available for help outside of class. Do not let yourself get behind. Set up a time to see me. The math resource center is available each hour. Please check the schedule for room numbers. There are other opportunities such as after-school tutoring and HAPP tutoring as well. 9/8/2015Math is awesome!23
