How may we use physical and human characteristics in describing and analyzing places? (MOSTD. III.E, 1.3;1.5)

agegender placeculture Read the following descriptions of three different people. Their descriptions will differ based on age, gender, and the place and culture from which they’ve come. How may we use physical and human characteristics in describing and analyzing places?

agegender cultural background Once you have read each person’s description, choose one to write about. Take on that persona and describe and analyze the school environment based upon your age, gender and cultural background.

How may we use physical and human characteristics in describing and analyzing places? Often he helps his older brother take care of the family goats. He is the only one of seven children who was selected by his parents to attend school. Meet Kinesi.

Since his Samburu family is semi- nomadic, sometimes he must walk alone nearly four hours - over terrain populated by baboons and leopards - to get to the only school in his district. His mother says that Kenesi runs most of the way - not from fear of predators, but from the excitement of school. Now meet Gregori

Gregori was a Russian military veteran as evidenced by his medals. His specialty was military reconnaissance. After his military service, he became the head of a large engineering facility in Volgograd. Meet Gregori.

At 94, he is retired and enjoys stamp collecting. Gregori's wife, Tatyana, retired from teaching English at the University. English, German, and French are very popular in Russian schools. A second language is required in Russian education Now meet Dagmar

Meet Dagmar. Dagmar is 25 years old. She was raised in a suburb of Washington, DC, in a wealthy, upscale family. Her mother is a doctor and her dad a lawyer. She went to private schools her entire life and as a child

was raised by a “Nanny.” Dagmar graduated from Harvard with a degree in micro-biology and is now working for Johns Hopkins Hospital. Dagmar has always had the best of everything and has lived a healthy, wealthy and happy life. She now plans to get her Ph.D. in micro- biology and do cancer research.

How may we use physical and human characteristics in describing and analyzing places? agegender cultural background Now that you have read each person’s description, choose one to write about. Take on that persona and describe and analyze the school environment based upon your age, gender and cultural background.

Here are some questions to think about: How does this school compare to your school experience? Physically, academically, socially, etc. Explain how the people in this school environment are alike and unlike those people you knew in your own school? How will you describe this school environment to friends and family in your own community?
