Highly Capable Program Services Growing talent and minds from Kindergarten to college and career

Definition of Highly Capable Students Students who perform or show potential for performing at significantly advanced academic levels compared with others of their age, experiences, or environments Outstanding abilities are seen within students' general intellectual aptitudes, specific academic abilities, and/or creative productivities within a specific domain (WACS)

Definition of Learning Characteristics 1.Capacity to learn with unusual depth of understanding, to retain what has been learned, and to transfer learning to new situations. 2.Capacity and willingness to deal with increasing levels of abstraction and complexity earlier than their chronological peers. 3.Creative ability to make unusual connections among ideas and concepts. 4.Ability to learn quickly in their area(s) of intellectual strength. 5.Capacity for intense concentration and/or focus.

What is ACE? The Accelerated and Clustered Enrichment Program is designed to: Provide rigorous, differentiated instruction Support social-emotional development Build on strengths

Outside Opportunities University of Washington Robinson Center for Young Scholars Summer Challenge Fast-paced, challenging courses in 3-5 week blocks Students explore issues and solve problems through interactive, hands-on activities Enrichment Programs Saturday courses throughout the school year Students are provided a dynamic, challenging, and inspirational learning experience in math or writing UW Robinson Center

Outside Opportunities John Hopkins Talent Search The Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth (CTY), a world leader in gifted education, seeks high performing students for enrollment in special programs throughout the country. High performing students take a test designed for older students which can reveal more about the student’s talents and abilities Tests are held in late fall/early winter and dates and fees can be found on website John Hopkin’s Center for Talented Youth
