Ashton Sander Preparing you for life beyond Santa Fe

I am here to teach; you are here to learn –I will do my job; you will do yours –Together we will use this year wisely so that the skills you learn in this class will benefit you for life Positive attitude is the key of success. Let’s keep it all the time.

Who is Mrs. Sander as a person?

My Family

What will I be doing this year? Let’s take a look at your syllabus!

Will this teacher treat me fairly? ABSOLUTELY! ALWAYS! The grade scale is in the student planner, page 8 Grades will be based on daily points, assignments, tests, quizzes, participation, projects, and other activities as assigned.

What do I need to bring to class? Paper for bellwork folder –To keep daily bellwork This will stay in the classroom in your assigned bin Paper Pen/Pencil Binder and dividers

What will be expected of me? Let’s take a look at my classroom policies and procedures.

Classroom Expectations Be Ready –Be seated in your assigned seat and prepared to learn before the bell rings. –Bring necessary supplies everyday. Be Responsible –Begin working on your bellwork without talking. –Stay seated- don’t leave your seat without my permission. –Follow directions, the first time given. Be Respectful –Treat others as you would like to be treated.

Breaking Rules If you choose to break a rule: –1 st incident: Verbal Warning –2 nd incident: Seat Change –3 rd incident: Teacher/Student Conference –4 th incident: Referral and communication home Consequences not always in this order. Pages of the planner specifies on more violations

Why do we have procedures? A procedure is the way that we do things. –To do things right, we have to follow simple procedures –So, to be successful in learning, you need to follow some simple procedures. Procedures are necessary to keep order

Entrance to class Take care of any personal issues before class –Bathroom, phone call, note for office, talk to teacher Enter the classroom quietly –Students who do not do this will be asked to leave the room and reenter as expected. When you come into this classroom, have your necessary materials everyday. Please keep backpacks, purses, and clothing out of the aisles so people may walk. Sit quietly in your assigned seat and begin your bellwork.

How to set up your paper In the top, right corner of your paper, write the following: –Your first name and last initial –Block –Date

Bellwork Immediately start the bellwork –It will be located at your desk OR written on the dry erase board on the side wall. Do the bellwork in your notebook –If bellwork was given in a worksheet form, hole punch it and place it in your folder. –Keep all of your bellwork in one folder –It’s collected randomly. Easy grade, keep up with it Bellwork is worth 5 points each day. You must do the following to get the points: –Write the date –Write the bellwork number –Restate and answer the question correctly, in a complete sentence.

Handing in work Homework and assignments carried over from the last class period are due at the beginning of the hour, unless I tell you otherwise. Work must be complete and correct per assignment specifications. If you do not have the assignment completed a Pink Slip will need to be filled out

Handing in Work Hand assignments/Pink Slips into the box labeled with your class’s day and hour: –i.e. Red 1, Black 6 Don’t work on unfinished work during the time given for bellwork or class time. If you are- it is late! If you have questions, please ask me!! –Don’t wait until the day it is due to do so If you come in late, do not cause a distraction turning in your homework.

Late work Late Work –What is the purpose of the work we do in this class? –Assignments, projects, and activities are due when stated. –Work that is not turned in on time will be worth the following: Turned in the same day due- 90% credit Turned in one calendar day late- 75% credit Turned in two calendar days late- 50% credit Turned in three calendar days late- 25% credit Work will not be taken after the unit of study is complete

Extra Copies You’ll be given 1 copy of an assignment we do in class. –If you lose it, or don’t bring it with you to work on the next class session, you’ll be given another copy and a 15 point deduction will be apply. –This applies to rubrics as well, if you turn in an assignment without a rubric, points will be deducted.

Arriving after the bell Take care of personal stuff before class –Ask permission if you need to do something before class to avoid a tardy Sit in your assigned seat and don’t disturb the class. If you must speak with me, raise your hand when it is appropriate to do so. Tardy: Without a pass –Consequences: in your planner page 5 Late: With a pass –If you have a pass, put it on my desk

At the end of class The bell does not dismiss you, I do. –Please be in your assigned seat and quiet. –Room needs to be neat and clean. –Chairs and tables need to be in original positions. –If the class is unable to leave the room as they found it, they will spend class time practicing proper procedures

If you are absent Make sure you have an admit slip from the office Arrive early (before school or study period) Check absent folder for assignments, tests, and bellwork you’ve missed. If you have questions, see me at an appropriate time. Responsibility of student to make up assignments, tests, and bellwork upon each absence. Missed one day- has one extra class day to make it up. –i.e. if due on Wednesday for class, due Friday for you Must write ABSENT across top, otherwise I’ll assume it’s late Unexcused absences void make-up privileges.

Make-Up tests How do you know if you missed a test? Ask for a study period pass at an appropriate time or schedule a time before/after school. Deadline: 1 week Unexcused absences void all make-up privileges. If you were absent you can make it up within one week of the original test date.

Re-Test Any student who makes below an 80% on any test will be allowed to retake that test according to the following conditions: –ALL assigned homework for the test was turned in ON TIME and completed to the best of the student’s ability. –Evidence of re-teaching, relearning according to the teacher’s instruction is shown. –The test retake MUST be arranged with the instructor and done on the student’s OWN TIME (primarily meaning before or after school) WITHIN 5 school days of the test return date. –Students will receive the higher of the 2 test scores up to a maximum of 80%. –Students signing up for a retake who do not show up and do not give the teacher notice will forfeit the retake privileges for that particular test.

If you need to leave class YOU MUST HAVE YOUR PLANNER! Hall passes: –Taped inside your planner, 6 chances per semester. –To use: raise hand and ask when appropriate to do so. –Unused passes turned in at end of semester for extra credit. –Only one person at a time.
