INSTRUMENTS FOR SUCCESS WHAT IS YOUR TOOL KIT FOR SUCCESS?

MAKE A LIST On one side of the index card: What are your strengths as a student? On the other side of the index card: What could you do to become a better student?

ORGANIZATIONAL SYSTEM-7 TH GRADE TOOL KIT Being organized is key! Set up a homework and study system Come to class prepared arrive on time have the proper supplies needed for each class Utilize resources available such as the media center, technology, extra help BE INVOLVED IN THE WHOLE SCHOOL! This is YOUR school! Make the most out of it!

OPTIONS FOR YOUR TOOL KIT FOR SUCCESS Make sure you stay organized Create a system that works for you Use a system that will work with your style and your schedule Depending on each class requirement, will depend on which organizational system will work best

MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE PROPER SUPPLIES Individual binders for each class include filler paper for note taking, folder for handouts, and dividers for sections such as current unit, notes, handouts, references If you decide to house multiple subjects in one binder, make sure it is big enough and do not include more than 3 subjects per binder Make sure you have plenty of pencils, pens (at least two different colors), and a highlighter Post-it notes and index cards are also helpful with reading activities and study strategies

HOMEWORK AND STUDY SYSTEM Use the teacher website to keep up to date on assignments, key due dates, homework, and other information such as changes, class notes, study materials, and to access key resources Use a daily planner, your AGENDA PAD, to record important information such as quiz, test, and project dates, as well as your daily homework information (as a reminder) Use a monthly desk calendar (medium to large) at home to map out your weekly study and project plans for all classes. This calendar will allow you to map out each week so that you can prioritize your work load

HOMEWORK AND STUDY CHECKLIST Daily Homework Checklist: Check all assignments written in the agenda pad as a checklist of things to do and check Teacher on-line pages Weekly Study Checklist: In addition to HW time, review for each subject at least 3 nights a week and 1 weekend, and report to Extra Help or Review Sessions Use a study strategy: Your daily homework will help you “study” but you should include another strategy as well REVIEW YOUR TEST RESULTS. Use a guide to help you assess what went right or wrong in studying and/or taking the test. Preparation and reflection is key!

TO STAY ORGANIZED: Do biweekly binder clean outs, BUT DON’T THROW EVERYTHING AWAY! Create a file system at home for all your subjects. Every two weeks, go through your binder to reorganize it. You want to have a file system at home to house your “old” materials and notes as you finish lessons and units for each class Do monthly locker clean outs! It is not only important to keep your “home”work and study preparation in order, but it is also important to keep your locker organized too! This will help avoid losing your homework in the locker!
