Lessons from the Life of Moses “Walking in Son Light”
Exodus 2:1-3 Now a man from the house of Levi went and took as his wife a Levite woman. The woman conceived and bore a son, and when she saw that he was a fine child, she hid him three months. When she could hide him no longer, she took for him a basket made of bulrushes and daubed it with bitumen and pitch. She put the child in it and placed it among the reeds by the river bank.
Exodus 2:1-3 We are thus introduced to the man God used to save the people of Israel from Egyptian bondage. Moses lived 120 years and provided a great example for us of how we should live today. His life contains many great lessons besides the one's we are discussing today.
Lessons From Moses Shunning sin
Shunning Sin Hebrews 11:24-26 He refused a life of luxury and privilege (cf. Ax 7:22) He made a choice to suffer rather with the people of God (Ex2:11-15; Ax 7:24 Thus Moses did esteem the reproach of Christ greater than the riches of Egypt
Lessons From Moses Shunning sin Patience
Patience Acts 7:25-26 Moses was ready but the people were not Moses worked another 40 years before he had the opportunity to go back (Ax 7:30)
Patience Luke 8:15 "But that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience." Luke 8:15 Psalm 27:14 "Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD." Psalm 27:14 Luke 21:19 "In your patience possess ye your souls." Luke 21:19
Lessons From Moses Shunning sin Patience Excuses
“Who am I?” Found in Exodus 3:11 Once a ruling member in Egypt Now a lowly shepherd 40 years past Egypt God’s response should have been adequate I will certainly be with you Ex 3:12
“What Shall I Say?” This excuse is found in Exodus 3:13 Reasonable question Who was he to lead them God’s response again should have been adequate Thus you shall say (Ex. 3:14-15)
“Suppose They Will Not Believe Me?” This excuse is found in Exodus 4:1 Now he balks that no one will listen His lack of faith shows up again God gives him proofs The rod (Ex. 4:2-5) His own hand (Ex. 4:6-8) The water (Ex. 4:9)
“I Am Slow of Speech And Slow of Tongue” We find this excuse in Exodus 4:10 Moses claims not to be an eloquent speaker God is able to make up his short- comings Exodus 4:11-12 God made arrangements for him as well Exodus 4:14-16
“Please Send…Whomever Else You Can Send” We find this excuse in Exodus 4:13 Moses just didn’t want to go The real reason God’s anger kindled against Moses (v.15-17)
Lessons From Moses Shunning sin Patience Excuses Meekness
Meekness Numbers 12:3 Meek does not equal weak Meekness does not mean compromise Instead we see Moses as the man who was in Mt. Sinai 40 days and nights. We see him as a bold and courageous leader of God's people. We see him as someone who defied the rebellion of Korah, Dathan, and Abijah
Meekness Meekness is a trait which all we as Christians should have. Notice Matthew 5:5 "Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth."Matthew 5:5 Meekness is one of the items listed in the fruit of the Spirit. Gal.5:23 It is something that we need to receive God's word. James 1:21 "Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls."James 1:21
Conclusion There are a great number of lessons from the life of Moses We know from the New Testament that he found a place with God in heaven Moses made mistakes but he always turned back to God
