JOSHUA AND CALEB

Joshua and Caleb 2 of the 12 spies Numbers 13:1-16 Each was a leader Caleb was from Judah v.6 Joshua’ true name was Hoshea v.16 Joshua was from Ephraim v.8 Only they had faith to take the land 14:1-10 God’s opinion 14:20-24 (13:30)

Caleb Was the leader from Judah He spoke up against all the others 13:30 The people wanted to kill him and Joshua 14:8 A turning point in their history 32:6-15 v.12 He got first choice Joshua 14:6-13 God rewarded his determination, faith He still had to take it Judges 1:12-20

Joshua Was the leader of the army Exodus 17:9-14 He was also Moses’ assistant Ex. 24:13 Was on Mt. Sinai with Moses 32:17-18 He never left Moses’ tent 33:11 He was jealous for Moses Numbers 11:24-30 Appointed Moses’ successor Num. 27:18-23 A type of Christ Deuteronomy 3:21-28 Filled with wisdom by the hands of Moses Deuteronomy 34:9

Joshua Was a true leader Joshua 1:6-9 Strong Courageous (not afraid, not discouraged v.9) Faithful to God’s word Active (led by example) He was successful This enhanced his ability to lead the people

Joshua Joshua demanded obedience 1:10-20 Was organized 2:1; 10:42; 18:3-10 Diligent 10:9 He had great faith 6:1-19 He gave glory to God 23:1-5 He challenged the Israelites to make a commitment to God 24:1-28 He was the most effective leader 24:31
