New Council Development DD’s Roll

DD’s Start New Councils 1. Identify parishes in each district and the councils to which they are assigned. 2. Contact Parish Priest to determine interest. Will he take an active part in forming a new council? Will he make pulpit announcements? To form a round table takes form 2629 and one name.

3. Talk to Grand Knight of council that serves the parish, If there is one. 4. Poll council members on prospects of being part of a new council. 5. If you receive positive results from your meetings with the Priest and the council members. 6. Set a time & date to meet with all interested Knights to determine how many will be the starting core.

Send Form Original to State Deputy. He will forward to Supreme. 8. Copy to new council development chairman for your area. 9. Keep one for yourself.

Supreme Sends Packet Weeks to a new council is the first pamphlet to read, it explains the complete process of forming a new council. 11. Establish what the name of the new council will be. It is important for opening a checking account and obtaining a EIN # from the IRS.

The Tax Number 12. Once you have established what the name of the new council is and the address to which mail is to be sent you can call the IRS on the phone and they will give you a 51 (c) (8) number. Each council has its own number. This number is a non-profit designation.

Checking Account 13. Opening a checking account requires the following. The 51# from the IRS and a copy of the organizational meeting minutes noting the names of all officers. Also take the name of the new council and the mailing address. 14. The name of the new council needs to have the words Knights of Columbus included somewhere in the name.

Form 100’s 15. New member form 100’s need to be forwarded to Supreme as soon as they are exemplified because of their insurance requirements. They are sent as new council what ever city and state. They are held by Supreme as unassigned. Transfers may be held until the new council is formed and then sent all together.

1 st Business Meeting 16. DD opens the 1 st business meeting of the new council by leading the assembled Knights in prayer and the pledge of allegiance to our Flag. 17. There being no reports or old business, proceed directly to new business and the election of officers.

Elect the Grand Knight 18. Once the new Grand Knight is elected you may resign the gavel to him and allow the new Grand Knight to conduct the election of the officer who are to serve the new council in its first year. 19. When all the officer positions have been filled, send form 185 to the State Deputy, State Program Director & DD of your district.

First Few Meetings 20. The DD should attend the first few meetings of the new council to ensure that the proper procedures are being followed and that the method of conducting a council meeting format is being used. 21. To get you started we have.
