This section is all about money. Film makers have to spend money to make a film. They can also make money from the film.

How can a film make money? Ticket sales DVD/ video sales and rental Merchandising Funding

Ticket sales When you go to the cinema, part of the ticket price has to be paid to the film makers.

DVD sales and rental When you buy or hire a DVD some of your money goes to the people who made the film. This is why it is against the law to copy and sell films- for more see copyright.copyright. This is known as “piracy” because it is stealing something that belongs to another person.

Copyright –No-one is allowed to make a copy of a film or use a character from a film without paying the film makers. This is called copyright, and it is there to make sure that the film makers are paid for their work.

Merchandising If you have something with a film character on it, this is a piece of merchandising and the film makers will make money every time one of these is sold. No-one is allowed to use a film character without paying for a copyright licencecopyright Can you think of any film merchandise that you own?

Copyright –No-one is allowed to make a copy of a film or use a character from a film without paying the film makers. This is called copyright, and it is there to make sure that the film makers are paid for their work. Copyright 2
