Your participation is “key” You will want to make a conscious effort to consider STTI as a viable resource when you do things in your profession: – Evidence-based practice issues – Any type of school paper to look for nursing resources, including the FREE Virginia Henderson Library – Call for abstracts for conferences, grants – Finding individuals of common interest (“The Circle”) When you “google,” be sure you “STTI" too! – 7

Principles of GPS = STTI Features The GPS has to be able to “see” you! – Nurses are very mobile people, from graduation through an extended career – When you move physically (house address) and/or change your address, you need to change your membership information on the STTI webpage – Give an address you monitor regularly – Check your junk mail or spam if you have paid your dues and did not receive the “STTI Connect” on the first of the month 14

Stay active and connected when you move… “I can’t be active in STTI because I am no where near my chapter” There are 479 STTI chapters in the world Wherever you go, contact the nearest university (or check first online under Regions) and transfer there or become a dual member. You can do this online yourself or get help anytime from staff at STTI. A “virtual chapter” is all online if you’re too remote or wish this option! 16

In sum, If STTI can’t find you, it will be very difficult or impossible to guide you in your career or offer choices along the way. When you don’t hear from them, you will ask…what have they done for me lately? And, this also means that you need to open and read STTI mail or the GPS might as well be off! 21

Only You can make STTI a priority When the chapter events calendar becomes available add them to your personal calendar. Then…. When it is time to plan your work schedule, you will be reminded of an event and can plan to be available as off that day or working a shift that will allow participation. 25
