¡BIENVENIDOS A LA CLASE DE ESPAÑOL! Haz Ahora (La Primera Actividad) 1. Use the colored piece of paper that you were handed as you walked into the room to create a name tent. 2. Fill out the Essential Information card and/or the Student Information sheet.

Syllabus Review  What do you do in a Spanish class?  How will you be graded?

GUIDELINE #1 Take your assigned textbook from the book cart as you walk into the room each day. Guideline #2 Be in your assigned seat working on the Haz Ahora when the bell rings. Classroom Guidelines

Guideline #3 Bring your notebook and all necessary materials to class and take them with you when you leave.

Necessary Materials  A writing utensil, preferably a blue or black pen or a pencil  A dedicated notebook or section of a notebook or binder  A folder  A dry erase marker  A pack of 3” x 5” index cards (can be left at home)

Guideline #5 Guideline #4 Treat each person in this room with respect and dignity. Follow directions the first time they are given.

Guideline #6 Follow all procedures and policies as outlined in Jefferson Township High School handbook.

Benefits of Procedures  A stress-free learning environment  A pleasant and orderly classroom atmosphere

When you are late  Enter quietly  Excused: Hand the pass to the teacher.  Unexcused: Write out the circumstances that resulted in your lateness….place in the pink basket.  Have a seat and take out your materials.

Turning in Assignments Homework  Place your name on the assignments and put it in the pink bin.  If you are missing an assignment or receive a failing grade, you may resubmit the assignment for partial credit. (You will have one week.)

Student Responsibility Form Student Responsibility Form This is for students who do not have the assigned homework  Fill it out  Sign and date it  Turn it in with the homework papers You need to complete a form for each assignment that is missing.

Sample Responsibility Form

Turning in Assignments Classwork - Place the assignments in the upper right hand corner of the desk until we are ready to turn them in. - Pass them forward to the student designated to clip them with a paperclip and place them in the pink Work bin.

Turning in Assignments Projects and Presentations - Written projects follow the homework policy. If you want to them to me, I must receive it by 7:30 AM on the day it is due. - Oral Presentations are due on the assignment date. If you are absent, you will not receive a grade on the assignment unless the absence is excused.

Turning in Assignments Tests and Quizzes - Once you have finished, turn your paper face down and wait for others to finish. - When time is up, place your papers still face down on the corner of the desk. - Pass them forward following the classwork procedure.

I have finished. I can…  Start working on my Spanish homework.  Finish some missing assignments.  Work on or Review my flashcards.  Organize my folder or binder.  Complete a review activity.  Read a book.

When you return from being absent…  Go to the Were you absent? box. Find the folder for your class and take your missing assignments and/or handouts.  Arrangements can be made to stay after-school to make up any textbook work missed.  If there was a test or quiz during your absence, make an appointment to do a make-up.

Classroom Discussions  PLEASE participate.  Attempt to speak in Spanish as much as possible. Practice makes progress.  I want to hear what you have to say.  Make all questions and comments relevant to the current discussion.  If your question is off the topic, write it down and ask later.

¿Puedo ir al baño? First 5 or Last 5 You may ask to go to the bathroom during the first or last five minutes of class. You MUST ALWAYS fill out your pass. Do not ask during a classroom discussion unless it is an emergency.

Class Dismissal  The teacher dismisses you, not the bell.  Do not start packing up prior to the bell.  Wait until the teacher finishes and officially dismisses you with: “ ¡Muchas gracias! ¡Hasta luego! ”

“Special” Procedures These will be introduced on an “as needed” basis  Computer Lab  Library/Media Center  Fire Drill  Assemblies  Progress Reports/Report Cards  Working Cooperatively  Substitute Teacher

Final Thoughts… Here’s to a great year! - Señora Díaz
