ActEyes IP Cam Training Part 1: Camera Setup

Network Setup Overview Each IP Cam on the network will need its own IP address to be assigned. This address must be in the same range as the other devices on your network but can not be the same as any other device. IP address will be in the format xxx.xxx.xxx.yyy - an example of a common address is as a general rule XXX will be the same for all devices on your network. Only YYY will change from device to device.

Understanding your current network In order to determine an appropriate IP address for your camera you will need to identify your current network configuration. Open a DOS window by Clicking then Open a DOS window by Clicking then Now type “cmd” into the run line. A short video of this process will be on the next slide For Windows Vista just type “cmd” into the search bar after clicking the Start button.

Opening a DOS window

Understanding your current network Now that you have a DOS window open you can find out what the IP range and settings are on your network. Type “ipconfig /all” at the DOS prompt and make note of your IP address, Gateway, and DNS server. A short video of this process will be on the next slide

Using the “Ipconfig” command

Understanding your current network In our example the IP address of the computer was So our camera should be xxx where xxx is any number from that is not already taken on the network. You can determine if an IP address is already taken by using the “ping” command in DOS. Just type “ping ” to see if this address is already taken. A short video of this process will be on the next slide

Understanding your current network By now you should have an IP address for you camera, a gateway, and the DNS server information. That is all you need to know to setup the IP camera for your network. For Example Camera IP = Gateway = DNS =

Configuring your IP Camera Carefully remove your IP camera and all accessories from the box and Connect the cameras power and network cable. A power adaptor is supplied with our products for connecting the cameras power to a standard electrical outlet. An Ethernet cable is also supplied with our product and should be used to connect the camera directly to a PC or laptop for initial network configuration.

Configuring your IP Camera Now that your PC is directly connected to the camera via Ethernet cable you can begin configuring the internal software for your network. Double click the IP detect program from the installation CD. Click “Discover Devices” until a device appears in the listing. It may take several minutes for the camera to appear in the listing. Click on the camera in the list and change the IP address, Gateway, and DNS1 listing to the numbers you made note of previously. Change the “Network Mask” to After all the numbers have been input click the “Change Parameter” button.

Configuring your IP Camera It can take several minutes for the camera to update the settings and reboot. Click “Discover Devices” until the camera appears in the listing again and make sure all the settings are correct before disconnecting the camera After you are sure the new network settings have been accepted by the camera you can detach the cables and move the camera to its permenant location. A short video of this process will be on the next slide

IP Detect Video Demonstration

Test the camera on the network Now you can move the camera to its final location and connect it to the power and network. I would recommend not permanently attaching the camera until after you have tested it thoroughly. After the camera has been connected to your network you can attempt to access the cameras built in web server from a PC or laptop on the network. Just open Internet Explorer and type “ ” in the address bar. should be replaced with the IP address you gave the camera in previous steps. You should see the built in web interface in your web browser. The default User Name and Password is “admin”. Enter the word “admin” for both the User Name and Password blank.
