©2007 Mate Precision Tooling Cutaway view of Marathon® Assembly Captive draw bolt will not fall out and get lost. Turn this threaded adjustment to extend or retract punch -- goodbye punch shims. By rotating the draw bolt this punch rises up to meet your fingers for easy removal. These high-load disc springs test out at millions of cycles for trouble-free stripping. Turn this spring-loaded ring counter-clockwise 10º to release stripper -- no wrenches needed. Let pin on stripper drop into any one of 8 radial index slots for settings in 45º increments. Press in on this stripper plate and the assembly locks shut automatically.
©2007 Mate Precision Tooling Marathon® Punch Holder Fully hardened and ground for precision and long life. Full length guiding in three positions (top, middle and punch end) for perfect alignment and stability. Spring loaded stripping for flatter sheets and improved hole accuracy. Single draw bolt lock for positive punch retention. Self-locking -- quick change stripper plate retention (no wrenches needed). Full station capacity -- both standard and auto index for programming compatibility. Fine setting length adjustment for punch length compensation (no shims needed).
©2007 Mate Precision Tooling Marathon® Punch Holder Angle Settings Standard: 4 built-in angle settings -- 0º, 45º L, 45º R, and 90º. 360º special angles available. To obtain built in angles, turn the spring loaded ring which releases the stripper – re-align the stripper to the desired angle -- and press down on the stripper until the spring loaded ring locks it in. Special angles are specified at the time a unit is ordered. Measure clockwise from 0º at 12 o’clock. 0º 45º L 45º R 90º
©2007 Mate Precision Tooling Marathon® Punch Holder Length Settings Tool length is adjusted with the punch removed, using a hex wrench. The hex wrench engages a length adjustment screw which serves as an adjustable shim. Adjustment required when punches of different lengths are interchanged or when a punch is made shorter by sharpening. Each revolution adjusts punch length 0.050” (1.30mm). Stripper should lead punch by 0.020” ” (0.50mm-1.30mm).

©2007 Mate Precision Tooling Marathon® Punch High speed steel for high speed punching compatibility. Punch, notch, nibble and blank with any punch for maximum versatility and simplified tool management. Long lasting -- millions of hits of useful life. High speed steel provides high abrasion resistance, anti-galling plus excellent hot and red hardness for long reliable tool life.
©2007 Mate Precision Tooling Marathon® Punch Both point and shank are guided for stable, rigid, clean cutting. Maxima® Coating is available for special applications Nitride surface treatable to 70 R/C for special applications -- OPTIONAL. Anti-heat checking quality for sharpening safety. Maximum station capacity. Up to 0.250(6.35) grind life.
©2007 Mate Precision Tooling Marathon® Stripper Hardened steel for long life. Multi-angle setting for versatile use of shaped punches. Guides and keys the punch at the cutting edge for ultimate precision line-up and superior piece part quality. Precision fit to the punch for precise angular and concentric alignment. ©2007 Mate Precision Tooling Slug Free Die Sequence Material held securely by stripper before punch makes contact. Punch penetrates the material. Slug fractures away from sheet. Pressure point constricts slug. Punch stroke bottoms out as slug squeezes past pressure point. Punch retracts and slug is free to fall down and away through exit taper of the Slug Free ® die.
©2007 Mate Precision Tooling 0.125” (3.2mm) grind life -- May be sharpened 10 to 20 times at 0.001(0.10) – 0.012(0.30) per sharpening. After sharpening, remachining of chamfer and radius may be required to maintain sheet lead in. 45º chamfer -- Provides smooth ramp for material to slide over die. Slug Free ® die -- Specially tapered die lands keep slugs from pulling back up out of die. Stress Free Relief™ geometry -- Distributes stresses, increases resistance to breakage by 50%. Clearance radius in die corners - - Maintains uniform clearance in corners of squares and rectangles for better punching without large corner burrs. A 0.160(4.00) radius all around the top profile prevents dies from marking bottoms of sheets. Die Punch Uniform Clearance Mate Slug Free ® Die

©2007 Mate Precision Tooling Marathon ® Standard 112 and 114 Standard 112 and 114 Punching force and motion are contained inside a sleeve with lubricated punch guides -- punch press bore doesn’t wear, stays accurate. Punching force and motion are in direct contact with punch press bore walls causing the bore walls to wear and lose accuracy.
