How are You? Seven Tips for Great Greetings! One way to make a good impression is to know how to meet and greet new people! 1.Do stand up – if you are seated. 2.Smile! 3.Look the person you’re greeting in the eye. 4.Move towards him or her and offer a handshake if it’s someone you’re meeting for the first time. 5.Say the person’s name as part of the greeting, “Sara, it’s good to meet you. 6.Unless it really is just a quick hello, be ready with a follow-up like, “How are you?” or “Great day isn’t it?” 7.When another person says, “Hi” to you, respond with your own, “Hi.”

Activity 1: Practice Greeting 1.Team up with a partner and practice the seven greeting tips. 2.Try using your greeting skills with other school staff, today. 3.Watch the video about social skills.

Another Key to Success at Outdoor School! 1.Be polite and show general interest in appropriate conversations. 2.Listen! When people say, “You are a good conversationalist!” they usually mean that you are a good listener. 3.Interrupting is the most common and irritating error you can make in talking with others. 4.Keep your conversation positive! Don’t complain and whine!

Activity 2: Conversation Practice Here are some topics to discuss in groups of four-five students: 1.Tell me the five best things about you. 2.Which of the following choices do you think are best and why? a.Dinner with everyone at the table and the TV on your favorite program. b.Dinner in which everybody took what they wanted to eat from the fridge and no one had the same thing. c.Dinner with the whole family together and the television turned off. 3.What are the qualities that make a good friend? 4.Describe your favorite toy when you were little. 5.What is the most enjoyable thing your family has done together? 6.What do you think is beyond the stars?
