Creating a Questionnaire Keep it simple Include instructions for answering all questions included on the actual survey Begin survey with general questions and move towards more specific ones Keep each question brief

Creating a Questionnaire Design a questionnaire that is graphically pleasing and easy to read. Remember to pre-test the questionnaire.  Have someone you know take it.  Group members should take it Mix the form of the questions  Scales  Rankings  Open-ended and closed-ended questions Create non-biased questions

Purpose of Survey Primary Research or Original Information gathered for a specific purpose  Internet Habits of Students at Wilson Memorial High School Survey will give you more quantitative results  Meaning you can summarize information in numbers How many did … ? What percent can… ?

Analyze Data Look for common opinions that may be counted together Quantify your results  Put numbers to the findings Raw numbers  How many did what?  Higher and lower statistics Percents Averages Advanced statistics  Mean  Standard deviation

Web Surfing Survey Project Your team will design a survey You think of the questions  Minimum of 10 to 15 questions It should fill up one whole page Once the survey is finished the way you want it, I will make copies for you. You will fill out one of your surveys yourself Then you will go to different rooms during the block to get these filled out

Web Surfing Survey Groups Will use the class groups already established Each group will combine their completed surveys Goal is to get 40 surveys completed No teachers—just students!

Web Surfing Survey Project As a group, you will create a PowerPoint class presentation Each person must speak during the presentation You will be giving each person in your group a grade  Will count as class work grade You must include each of the points in the next few slides in your presentation

Web Surfing Survey Project Specifics The presentation and final questionnaire must show…  Seven (7) charts and/or graphs covering the group’s findings on the different areas So make sure your survey covers these areas…  Number of hours surfing on Internet  Web uses  Best attribute  Worst attribute  Application used most  Internet activities  Internet importance

Web Surfing Survey Project Specifics The presentation/questionnaire must answer the four questions below…  So again, make your survey to cover these areas! How many hours are spent surfing on the Internet? What do teenagers do on the web?  Include what activities are used the most  Include what applications are used the most What is the effect of blogging today? What will be the effects of blogs in the future?

Web Surfing Survey Project Specifics The presentation must discuss…  How did it go when you went to a class room?  What class did you go to?  Who, in your group, did the talking in the class room?  How do you think you could have presented the survey in a better way? What were the flaws (if any) with your survey  Did you ask if they had questions? Would that have been a good idea?

Web Surfing Survey Project Specifics Do research on Internet surfing habits…  On teenagers  On employees  On general public  Generate your own ideas Search engines…  Google  Good Search Must give references!  Put on last couple of slides in the presentation

Web Surfing Survey Project Specifics The presentation should end with a summary of the group’s opinion on the subject Include…  Does the group agree with what the findings of the survey indicated? Explain why either way!  Why or why not is the internet important to you?  Has this been an improvement for society?  Where do you see the Internet in 10 years?

Presentation Grading Each group will turn in one copy of their PowerPoint slides  Print Handouts, 6 per page Each group will turn in ALL of their completed surveys The grade I give you as a group will count individually to each person as…  1 test grade  1 class work grade  1 bell work grade

Presentation Grading The class will give you a grade on the presentation  Using same form that was used with the brochure presentation  Will count as a bell work grade Group members will also give each person a grade  Will count as a class work grade

Presentation Grading You will receive 5 grades in all for this project Time for Project…  One week at most  I reserve the right to shorten time and add to requirements depending on how the class cooperates

Alternative Assignment If you miss more than 3 days during the time of this project, I reserve the right to give an alternative assignment. You will write a paper on Internet Surfing Habits of Americans  At least 10 references properly formatted on a reference page  Minimum 10 pages Does not include reference pages nor cover sheet  Cover page  Counts five grades just as regular assignment  Due 5 days upon your return
