ACADEMICS N'ASA, Modeling The Future!

THE UoN BSc. ACTUARIAL SCIENCE COURSE (I07) N'ASA, Modeling The Future!

A four-year course with: 12 units in 1 st year. 12 units in 2 nd year. 10 units in 3 rd year. 10 units in 4 th year. All units are either: Actuarial units (SAC); Statistical units (STA); or Mathematical units (SMA). N'ASA, Modeling The Future!

To get a 1 st Class Honours: Do not fail a single unit throughout the course. Manage a minimum of 14 out of 20 A’s in 3 rd and 4 th year. Considerations are given to students with a high subject average or those in leadership positions. N'ASA, Modeling The Future!

To become an actuary: Join a recognized professional body such as: IFoA – Institute & Faculty of Actuaries, U.K. SOA – Society of Actuaries, U.S.A. ASSA – Actuarial Society of South Africa, RSA. and complete a rigorous series of professional exams combined with hands-on work experience. N'ASA, Modeling The Future!

When can you start the exams? You can start SOA exams right now if you are good enough in Financial Mathematics & Statistics! You can start your IFoA exams after 2 nd year when you’ll be ready for Financial Mathematics, Finance and Financial Reporting, Business Economics and Statistics. N'ASA, Modeling The Future!

STRUTURE OF IFoA EXAMS Core Technical (CT) stage: 9 subjects, ALL of which you must pass or be exempted from. CT9 is a two-day residential course. Core Applications (CA) stage: 3 subjects. You need to pass or be exempted from all the 3. Specialist Technical (ST) stage: 9 subjects. You need to pass or be exempted from 2. Specialist Applications (SA) stage: 7 subjects. You need to pass only 1. N'ASA, Modeling The Future!

The professional path: After CT and CA exams, and a year's work-based skills, you can take a one-day professionalism course and qualify as an Associate Actuary. To qualify as a Fellow of the IFoA, you will need to take the ST and SA exams, have three years of work-based skills and then take a two-day professionalism course. N'ASA, Modeling The Future!

You can complete your CT papers by graduation!
