UNCLASSIFIED Nuclear Weapon Accident Exercise (NUWAX) Series Series began in 1979 In response to loss of knowledge gained via nuclear weapons accidents in 1960’s Collaboration between DOE, DOD and all four Services 1980 Titan Missile Accident in Damascus, Arkansas Emphasized need for continued training and improvement Defense Nuclear Agency (predecessor of DTRA) chartered as executive agent of NUWAX program after accident 3
