Daily Agenda 1.Good News 2.Science Starter 3.Quiz 4.Discuss Ch. 2.2 Rates of Weathering 5.Launch

Standard Objectives  Describe how ice, water, wind, gravity, plants, and animals cause mechanical weathering.  Describe how water, acids, and air cause chemical weathering.  Soil – soils consist of weathered rocks and decomposed organic materials from dead plants, animals, and bacteria. Soils are often found in layers with each having a different chemical composition and texture.

SCIENCE STARTER Quiz What are the 7 mechanical weathering processes? What are the 5 chemical weathering processes? Explain how the size and shape of a rock can be weathering mechanically or chemically. Include at least three examples in your explanation.

Discuss the following questions 1. Explain how the composition of rock affects the rate of weathering. 2. Describe how a rock’s total surface area affects the rate at which the rock weathers. 3. Describe how differences in elevation and climate affect the rate of weathering. Assignment
