Homework: for tomorrow. Go through all the gospel texts for this unit: you should have highlighted them. Design a timeline to show the key events for this unit, from Jesus’ entry to Jerusalem, to his resurrection appearances. Include a brief summary of each event you mark. Use your AQA Specification for Mark’s Gospel to check you have included all required texts. (you may need to do an S shaped timeline to fit everything in).

Judas & the Betrayal What do you know about Judas? Mindmap it. **Why might he have wanted to betray Jesus?

1. Who was Judas? Use the text book p to bullet point some information about him under the headings: a. Who he was (in general) b. What his surname could mean (2 things) c. What he did (see below) d. Why he might have betrayed Jesus (3 reasons) e. Why being “one of the twelve” made his action worse. **Why do you think Judas hanged himself at the end? Does that tell you anything about what his original reasons for betraying Jesus might have been? Mark 3:13-19: Jesus Appoints the Twelve ” And he appointed twelve, to be with him, and to be sent out to preach the message and have authority over evil spirits :Simon, James, John … and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed him.” Mark 14:17-20: At the Last Supper When they had taken their places and were eating, Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, one of you will betray me, one who is eating with me….it is one of the twelve, one who is dipping bread into the bowl with me. Mark 14:43-45 The Betrayal and Arrest of Jesus 43 Immediately, while he was still speaking, Judas, one of the twelve, arrived; and with him there was a crowd with swords and clubs, from the chief priests, the scribes, and the elders..he went up to him at once and said, “Rabbi!” and kissed him. After the Anointing at Bethany, Judas went to the Sanhedrin – the council of the chief priests, scribes and Pharisees – led by the High Priest Caiaphas. He offered to let them know where they could find Jesus. They were glad, and said they would rewarded him with money. Then Judas rejoined the disciples, & went with them to the Last Supper. Jesus knew what Judas was going to do: and he confronted him about it openly, but Judas left the Last Supper early, to fetch the priests, and to take their money. After Jesus’ arrest and sentencing to death, Judas regretted what he had done, and went out and hung himself.

Was Judas’ action really evil ? NOYES
