The purpose & authority of Jesus Authority – not a word we like much these days. We can be influenced by society to want to reject authority, even legitimate authority. We want to be the only one with authority in our own lives. But Luke tells us that Jesus has authority. Purpose – why did Jesus come? The question mark wasn’t in Jesus’ mind but should be in our minds as we read Luke. Today we’re going to get a clear answer, and the rest of Luke’s book will explain that purpose in more details. It’s tied to Jesus’ identity (Who is Jesus?), which is important in today’s passage and to which we’ll come back in a couple of weeks, esp. Luke 9.

1) Jesus returns! Vs ) Jesus ‘at church’ Vs ) Jesus ‘at home’ Vs
