The province covers some 6,596 square kilometres and is divided into 9 Amphurs (districts): Muang Sukhothai, Sawankhalok, Sri Samrong, Si Satchanalai, Kong Krailat, Kirimas, Thung Saliam, Ban Dan Lan Hoi and Sri Nakhon.

The ceremony is to commemorate the Great king, phor Khun Ramkhaeng for what he has done for Thai people from the past up to now. It is held on the 17th of January every year at King Ramkhamhaeng Monument inside Sukhothai Historical Park.

This is an annual fair which is held in front of the city hall from the end of January to beginning of February every year. The purpose of the fair is to worship Maeya, the holy image that Phor Khun Ramkhamhaeng built for his mother“ Nang Suang“ and also to worship the 9 great Buddha Images and the monument of King Rama V.

Sukhothai’s Loi Krathong is held annually on the full moon night of the 12 th lunar month [the 15 th day of the waxing moon] at the Sukhothai Historical Park.

It is held on the 10 th – 12 th of April at SiSatchanalai Park every year. According to the frist stone inscription, it states that “People in Sukhothai are charitable, pious and devoted to alms giving…”
