Feasibility Study Update – April 23 th, 2013

Agenda and Goals 1.Review Design Values 2.Review Program Elements 3.Review Design Strategies 4.Review Next Steps a)Department Program Verification b)Cost Estimate

Design Values 1) A 21 st Century Learning Environment A learning environment to inspire, motivate, and prepare learners to live in an ever-changing, globalized world Environment should foster and promote individuals who can think creatively, critically, operate collaboratively, use technology, exhibit effective written and oral communications, and operate in teams that reflect diverse global perspectives

Design Values 2) A Student-Centered Design Built to Encourage Student, Faculty and Staff Collaboration A Enhance visibility of core student services Centralize and connect the East and West main entrances The main point of arrival should be a social space with a sense of connection to the larger education community Stairways and doorways ‘opened up’ to encourage flow and interaction Connect the tower to the college and campus

Design Values 3) A Civic Structure Instead of a Citadel The building should be a participatory structure encouraging engagement—open and welcoming Day-lit interior atrium that is visible and connected to the exterior

Design Values 4) Connect Learning Spaces to Offices and Conference Rooms Connection or ‘proximity’ from offices and learning spaces Sense of place and identity More than classrooms—learning can ‘break-out’ to other areas

Additional Design Values 1.Natural light 2.Connection to nature 3.Outdoor learning areas 4.Wayfinding 5.Transparency between spaces 6.Universal Design principles 7.Community-focused design 8.Welcoming entry areas 9.Home-style restrooms 10.Modern design 11.Celebrate learning 12.Sustainability and green design 13.Health and wellness 14.Security
