CUSTOM DESIGNED TREES FOR UNIQUE APPLICATIONS Alcoa Green Technologies

Environmental Mission Alcoa believes a business designed around natural processes, provides a model that can be successful, both economically and be environmentally friendly: The system we model is Photosynthesis:

Soils need to be Designed & Managed We Model Fertilizers, Hummates, Folic Acids, Biologicals, into a balanced growth system which is optimal for trees.

Aerobic Activity needs to be Achieved Microbial Activity is paramount to healthy soils and successful tree growth. Soils with Aerobic activities allow for better nutrient up take and eventually more rapid rates of growth. Adding Hummates, Acids, Organic fertilizers offer better bio-uptake to the trees.

Soil Remediation through Forests Growth Rate over two years

Alcoa Tree & Land Management Model Alcoa has the rights to market four proprietary trees into India:  The “Carbon Tree”–consumes 1 ton of carbon /tree/yr  Tree consumes 60% of its carbon in first three years  Generates 1 ½ tons of biomass in three year.  The “Green Tree” – Used in roadways and greenbelts  The “Lumber Tree” – designed for straight lumber  The “Bush Tree” – Used for Windbreaks & Dust Abatement.

Alcoa Tree Program Benefits: CO2 Sequestration – 1 ton of CO2 removed per tree/year or 300 tons per acre per year of CO2. Oxygen – 300 lbs/tree/year (45 Tons/acre/yr) Low water use – less than 1 acre foot/acre/yr Trees reduce ground temperature Dust Abatement Fly Management Windbreaks Soil Remediation of toxic elements 50 foot tap roots for ground water use

Alcoa Proprietary Benefits in GMO Modifications Tree is non evasive and will not propagate. Tree biomass is an 8500 BTU pulp with less than 12% moisture content. It is a hardwood yet half the weight if pine. (great for pallet applications/window blinds.) When cut for biomass the will be harvested beginning in year three or wood products at year six. Trees are great for cattle feed, pest management or wind or dust management. Tree re-grows into its Stump

End Use For Wood Products
