RULES FOR THE CLASSROOM

Be respectful to Mrs. Tyree, Mrs. Gilliam, Mrs. Butler, visitors to the classroom, your classmates and yourselves. You will be treated with the same respect and courtesy with which you treat others. Even if you do not agree with someone, you must respect their right to their own opinions and beliefs. R-E-S-P-E-C-T

Be patient and tolerant of others. Yes, you may know the answer right off the bat, but others take a little time to get there. Drawing attention to how quick you know things can make others feel that they don’t need to talk. EVERYONE needs to participate and we intend to hear from each class member this semester. Don’t be a Talk Shark! This goes back to being respectful. BE PATIENT

Come to class on time with all your materials. This includes having a writing utensil, paper, any homework or assignments that were assigned previously, and whatever piece of literary material we are going over at the time. We have materials you may borrow but you will have to give us collateral (i.e. phone, keys, a shoe, etc.) BE PREPARED

PUT YOUR NAME ON ALL ASSIGNMENTS

Assignments are given for a reason and they are expected back on their respective due dates. Work must be turned in on time to receive full credit. Late work, if accepted, will be graded with a penalty. TURN IN YOUR WORK ON TIME

Complete all your assignments with creativity and originality. This class is to help you learn and we can’t do that if you are copying someone else’s work and passing it off as your own. Of course, there’s also the fact that plagiarism will result in a zero for the assignment and other academic penalties. If you use someone else’s work, GIVE THEM CREDIT. BE AUTHENTIC

If I, Mrs. Gilliam or Mrs. Butler are talking, it’s usually for a reason and, probably, to your benefit. We shouldn’t have to repeat ourselves multiple times because you were not listening. PAY ATTENTION

Absences happen. However, we will soldier on without you. Do not ask us if we did something when you weren’t here. Check the folders for the date you missed. The folders are assigned as follows: Red- First Block Yellow- Third Block Blue- Fourth Block ABSENT? WHAT SHOULD YOU DO?

Do not ask for extra credit. We do not give extra credit as a rule. However, there may be some instances on a test where questions may be counted as extra credit rather than regular answers. At the end of the semester is not the time to decide to ask for more work. If you complete the regular assignments YOU WILL NOT NEED EXTRA CREDIT. EXTRA CREDIT

We will give you one bathroom pass per week. It is up to you when and if you use them. Those that do not use their passes will receive a reward at the end of each nine weeks. You will not be allowed to leave class during instruction to go to the bathroom. There is ample time in between classes. Also, if you come in late, do not expect to leave the room again unless called to the office. BATHROOM BREAKS

School policy states that cell phones are not to be in use during class. There are rare occasions where we will let you use your phones for assignments. You will be notified of these times. If you have your phone out and it is not for designated instruction, it will be confiscated. If you abuse this privilege, it will be taken away. Do not have your cell phone out without permission and make sure it is off during class unless otherwise instructed. CELL PHONES

SPELLING COUNTS. GRAMMAR COUNTS. ANSWERS MUST ALWAYS BE IN COMPLETE SENTENCES. A PARAGRAPH IS 5-7 SENTENCES. THIS IS AN ENGLISH CLASS SO PLEASE USE COMMON SENSE ON ALL ASSIGNMENTS

LET’S ENJOY THIS SEMESTER! TRY TO REMEMBER THAT, WHILE ENGLISH MAY NOT BE YOUR FAVORITE SUBJECT, IT IS IMPORTANT.
