CLASSROOM PROCEDURES Upon Entering the room check the dressing room door for: Attendance/Dress Out sign Sit in rows for attendance. DO NOT approach the teacher with questions before attendance! Announcements/Questions. Daily Activity Announcements and Change back into school uniform.

DRESSING ROOM RULES You have 7 minutes after the bell rings to change and be seated in your attendance rows. No personal items should be left in the dressing room! All personal items go on the shelves after leaving the dressing room. Items left in the dressing room are not the responsibility of the teacher or Doral Academy.

CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS Listen to directions the FIRST time they are given BRING YOUR UNIFORM EVERY CLASS. – NO SOCKS!!! Students must wear approved dance shoes or sneakers. – NO FOOD or GUM! Repeat offenders will be issued a detention. – NO JEWLERY. Large earrings, bracelets and necklaces can be a hazard to you and your classmates when dancing in close proximity. – HAIR MUST BE TIGHTLY SECURED. Example: ponytail, bun. NO ELECTRONIC DEVICES with out preapproval of the teacher. Must be in their school bags. NO TALKING during warm-up, dance exercises and instruction. BE RESPECTFUL TO YOUR TEACHERS & CLASSMATES. Examples: Raise your hand, listen when others are speaking, wait your turn. GIVE YOUR BEST EFFORT & HAVE FUN!

GRADING SYSTEM Students will receive at least two grades per week. Grades will be determined based on class work, homework, class participation, conduct and effort for that specific week. Tests and quizzes will be given as a form of evaluation for both choreography and vocabulary terms/readings. PERFORMANCES It will be mandatory for the dance students to perform at least once per year. Dance offs/auditions are held several weeks before a performance. If the teacher feels that the student is not sufficiently prepared, he/she may not perform. Attire for dance-offs/auditions /tests should be the proper class uniform. (No sweat clothes or any color tights besides tan/black.) If the student is not chosen for the performance they must either complete a project assigned or will be assigned a specific task for the show (i.e. ushers, ticket sales, programs, etc.) Diamonds Dance Team Competition Showcase – Wednesday, December 3 (Doral Academy) – Competitions: Saturday, December 13 (Ronald Reagan) and Sunday, January 18 (FIU) Spring Show (Hialeah Senior High School) tentative dates – Thursday, April 9 (Cast One) – Thursday, April 16 (Cast Two) Diamonds Dance Team Middle School Diamonds Dance Team High School Dance Performing Arts Senior Showcase and Student Choreography Showcase – Wednesday or Thursday, May 27 or 28 (Doral Academy)

INJURIES AND ILLNESS/MAKE UP WORK If you are injured, you must bring in a doctor’s note, so that the participation can be excused. If a note is not brought to school within 24 hours, the grade will be unexcused (“F”). Make up work will only be available for excused injuries and must be completed before the end of the period, and will not be accepted after class. If a dancer complains of an chronic injury or illness that causes him/her not to participate, he/she must submit a statement from his/her doctor stating that he/she has been properly examined and is unable to physically participate. Once the injury is properly taken care of and healed, he/she must submit a statement with eligibility to practice/perform. If you are absent, you must bring in a note from home so that the absence can be excused. If a note is not brought to school within hours, the absence will be unexcused. Make up work will only be available for excused absences and must be requested by you on the date of your return to school. IT IS THE STUDENT’S RESPONSIBILITY TO GET ALL MAKE UP ASSINGMENTS. For excused absences, make up work must be turned in within 7 days from the return date to class.

WISH LIST Help out the dance department and earn your parent volunteer service hours at the same time! To receive credit for your hours, a receipt of purchase must be provided with your donation.
