SUPPORT YOUR TROOPS BY BOARDING THEIR PETS Overview for Dogs on Deployment Who is Dogs on Deployment? What do they do? Who have they helped? Where they’re headed How you can help

HISTORY OF DOGS ON DEPLOYMENT

SUPPORT YOUR TROOPS BY BOARDING THEIR PETS DoD’s Story Dogs on Deployment was founded in 2011 by a dual military couple, Alisa and Shawn Johnson, who serve in the US Marine Corps and US Navy respectively. They owned a dog, JD, who they could not care for during their dual military commitments. They found family to rely on, but recognized not all military families do. They decided to help.

SUPPORT YOUR TROOPS BY BOARDING THEIR PETS Dogs on Deployment Founders Captain Alisa Johnson and LT Shawn Johnson, pose with their dogs, JD and Jersey. They are the proud owners of two dogs, two cats and two parrots. Their passion is helping other military members and their pets.

SUPPORT YOUR TROOPS BY BOARDING THEIR PETS 2015 DoD Mascot, Leonidas In 2015, Dogs on Deployment held its third-annual Military Pet of the Year and Mascot Competition. Tim Johannsen, and his dog, Leonidas, won by popular vote. The two became unlikely friends, in the most unlikely of places, when Tim was deployed in Afghanistan. Tim’s wife, Kaddy, knew that he wasn’t going to be able to leave Leo behind when he returned home so, she began searching for ways to get Leo back to the states and found an organization called The Puppy Rescue Mission that helped to bring Leo home to the states to be reunited with Tim. Together, Dogs on Deployment, the Johannsen’s and Leo will work to bring awareness to Animal Rescue Advocacy. They especially want to help “focus on helping soldiers rescue dogs that rescued them,” like Leo did for Tim, and retired war dogs. Photography: Just B Photo

SUPPORT YOUR TROOPS BY BOARDING THEIR PETS The Battle at Home With the draw down in the war, more troops will return with emotional and physical wounds that will need DoD’s help while they receive in- patient treatment. Deployments will always occur. DoD will always be ready. A struggling economy means financial difficulty for veterans. DoD is there to help. Brown Stuff, with his owner John, who was injured in Afghanistan, was boarded through Dogs on Deployment during John’s hospitalization.

SUPPORT YOUR TROOPS BY BOARDING THEIR PETS A National Name DoD needs all military members to know who they are and what they do Dogs on Deployment will achieve top-tier national recognition Dogs on Deployment seeks national-level recognition by the Department of Defense Lt.
