What is art? Are you an artist? Where do you see art? Who are some well known artist?

I want children to appreciate art and art culture. I want to help children understand that they too can be an artist. I want to help children be well rounded individuals. I want kids to start exploring the world around them.

I will have the children explore the activity I have set up on my wiki page, in which the children will explore art museums around the world and pick out their favorite piece. Then I will have each child make a brochure of their favorite work of art. The brochure must contain information about the artist, the work of art, museum it is in, and why it appealed to them. The brochure will be a creative and explorative activity.

My teaching lesson is a reflection of my educational philosophy because I believe in the discovery learning theory. In my lesson the children will have to explore various museums, view many works of art, pick their favorite work of art, and create a finished product which show cases the abilities above as well as their creativity.

§ Art, Grade 4. (b) Knowledge and skills. (1) Perception. The student develops and organizes ideas from the environment. The student is expected to: (A) communicate ideas about self, family, school, and community, using sensory knowledge and life experiences; and (B) choose appropriate vocabulary to discuss the use of art elements such as color, texture, form, line, space, and value and art principles such as emphasis, pattern, rhythm, balance, proportion, and unity.

1. Facilitate and Inspire Student Learning and Creativity Teachers use their knowledge of subject matter, teaching and learning, and technology to facilitate experiences that advance student learning, creativity, and innovation in both face-to-face and virtual environments. Teachers: a. promote, support, and model creative and innovative thinking and inventiveness. b. engage students in exploring real-world issues and solving authentic problems using digital tools and resources. c. promote student reflection using collaborative tools to reveal and clarify students' conceptual understanding and thinking, planning, and creative processes.

I will know my students have reached their unit goals by their brochure, which is their final project. Their brochure will reflect their writing skills, organization skills, creativity, and how well they are able to use the internet as a tool to search for information.
