Year 12 Art students from Stowmarket High School Exhibition at the Museum of East Anglian Life ‘Approachable, Encouraging, Engaging, Friendly, Safe’

The Art department at Stowmarket High have recently forged links with the Museum of East Anglian Life, using the museum’s buildings and grounds as a resource for their A-level Art and Photography courses. The A-Level pupils were exploring ‘A Sense of Place’ as part of their year 12 course work. This could be a response to an environment, defining oneself in terms of a piece of land or the way people encounter the world around them. ‘Approachable, Encouraging, Engaging, Friendly, Safe’

The pupils attended a ‘Kids in Museums’ Takeover Day in November 2012; they toured the museum buildings and got involved in examining the history of the museum. They were then invited to photograph and sketch anything that intrigued them in the large and small objects store, where non-display items are kept – a rare behind-the-scenes experience. Museum Takeover Day ‘Approachable, Encouraging, Engaging, Friendly, Safe’

Museum Takeover Day

The Exhibition Since Museum Takeover Day the pupils have been planning an exhibition with the Museum of East Anglian Life that will show off some of the work they have produced in response to their time at the museum. The museum has kindly offered the students the use of all the buildings and the option to display work outside in the grounds. The students have responded in a variety of art forms including photography, large-scale drawings, paintings, printmaking, textiles and weaves, small sculptures and lots more. ‘Approachable, Encouraging, Engaging, Friendly, Safe’
