Chapter 5 Section 4

Disco In the late 1960s, rock and roll became music that was more often listened to that danced to. The new dance beat that took the world through the end of the war in Vietnam was called disco. This was a mix of rhythm and blues, gospel, soul, and Latin Dance music. Short for discotheque, meaning record library, disco was short for the clubs where it was danced.

Disco Disco music was heavy on the beat, and featured brass and other instruments seldom heard in rock music. The greatest Disco hits were “I will Survive” by Gloria Gaynor and “Stayin’ Alive” by the Bee Gees.
