Objectives Students will be able to multiply fractions and mixed numbers with 80% accuracy. Essential Question- How do you multiply two mixed numbers? NS 2.1- Students will solve problems involving multiplication of positive fractions and explain why a particular operation was used.

Vocabulary GCF- Mixed number- Improper fraction-

Vocabulary GCF- this is used to help us simplify a fraction. We must divide the numerator and denominator by the GCF. Mixed number- this is when we have a whole number and a fraction. Improper fraction- this is when we have a fraction that has a numerator larger than its denominator.

Multiplying Fractions To solve these types of problems you will be applying standard NS 2.1- multiplying fractions to solve a problem. Step 1- check to see if you can divide out common factors using the GCF. (cross cancel) Step 2- multiply the numerator. Step 3- multiply the denominator. Step 4- simplify (write your answer in a mixed number if needed)

Don’t Forget When multiplying a fraction and a whole number, the whole number is the numerator over 1. 18= 18/1 Complete #’s 1-8, page ) independently 8 min. 2) partner (error analysis) 5 min. 3) poll and review

Multiplying Mixed Numbers ***Step 1- write the mixed numbers as improper fractions Step 2- check to see if you can divide out common factors using the GCF.
