International Experiences Exchange Program Classes are taken with students of the host university Excellent foreign language skills are required Study Abroad Courses are taught by Georgia Tech faculty at various abroad locations Summer after the freshman year is a great time to study abroad International Plan (Degree Designator) A program to develop global competence within the context of a student’s major Second language proficiency is required Requires: International Coursework, International Experience (26 weeks abroad) and Culminating Course We have an innovative study-abroad program at Georgia Tech Lorraine in Metz, France, where we offer our master's-level courses in mechanical engineering. A summer program is also offered for undergraduate students. Both programs are taught in English by GT faculty members.

Professional Work Experiences Georgia Tech Internship Program (www.gtip.gatech.edu) Single semester major related work experiences in a professional setting, domestic or international Opportunities available during summer, fall, or spring Students looking for summer internships should start now Cooperative Program (www.coop.gatech.edu) Multiple semester major related work experiences (with the same company each semester) in a professional setting Students rotate each semester between work and school Students work a minimum of 3 semesters for the same company Students can apply to the program during their first semester Student can begin work as early as the summer after their freshman year

Academic Experiences BS/MS Program Undergraduate Research Application Requirements: Apply between 30 – 75 earned credit hours Minimum Overall GPA of 3.5 Advantages: Students are not required to take the GRE Allows students to take 6 hours of graduate work which counts towards both BS & MS degrees Undergraduate Research Students can participate in research for pay or class credit Class counts as ME Electives, Tech Electives or Free Electives Minors and Certificates Minors are 15-18 credit hours, certificates are 12 credit hours Georgia Tech offers 36 minors and 60+ certificates

Information for Parents Deans List An academic standing of GOOD No Incomplete (I) grades At least 12 hours of course work on a letter grade basis Academic average of 3.00 or higher Faculty Honors No Incomplete (I) or Withdrawal (W) grades Academic average of 4.00 Students can have their hometown newspaper receive notification of Deans List or Faculty Honors. Information for Parents Certifications for health insurance coverage, car insurance, scholarships, etc. can be printed by the student. Georgia Tech has authorized the National Student Clearinghouse to act as our agent for all verifications of student enrollment. Third parties must use the Clearinghouse. This is a free service to students. www.registrar.gatech.edu/students/formlanding/enrollverification.php Forms that need to be signed for health insurance coverage, car insurance, scholarships, etc. must be taken to the registrar’s office. The student must submit the signed document to the Registrar's Office. Turn around time is ~2 business days. Certifications are provided AFTER final registration closes. Certifications are based on enrollment as of the certification print date. Students who drop a course(s) and have less than 12 hours on his/her current schedule are not certified as FULL-TIME.

Information for Parents Emergency Contact Information Students should enter their "Emergency Contact" information on OSCAR. This will only to be used by the Dean of Students or Campus Police in case of dire emergency. Power of Attorney Students traveling abroad should have a power of attorney granting or a letter signed by the student you access to their academic records. FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act) Georgia Tech does not release information (other than "Directory Information") to anyone without the written consent of the student. Internship Information for Parents When should students begin their internship search? Approximately 2 semesters before they are interested in interning. When do companies hire interns? One to two semesters in advance. Students should start looking for summer internships NOW, and continue looking all through the end of Spring semester. What resources are at GT to find internships? Career Services - Career Services helps students find internships and full-time positions on CareerBuzz. Professional Practice Office - This office help students with internships and co-op positions. What semesters can students have an internship? Internships can be during summer, fall or spring semester. Students can register as a full time student (for health insurance purposes) while on a major related full-time internship.
