If everyone is thinking alike, then somebody isn’t thinking. - George S. Patton

Be sure that you take notes on this. on this.

# 1 – Explain three things that are wrong with this outline. I. Introduction/Thesis: Two issues consist of the pollution of rivers and streams as well as the price increase on land, houses, and apartment buildings and everyone has their own opinion. II. Water Pollution From Fracking A. People upset over the chemicals being mixed B. Not showing much care III. The Cost of Living Increase A. The landlords rising their cost B. The tenants suffering IV.Conclusion

# 1 - First Problem: Why do we need “and everyone has their own opinion”? Isn’t that already implied in “issues”? Two issues consist of the pollution of rivers and streams as well as the price increase on land, houses, and apartment buildings and everyone has their own opinion.

# 1 - Second Problem: The thesis does not match (general/specific) the focal sentences: Two issues consist of the pollution of rivers and streams as well as the price increase on land, houses, and apartment buildings. II. Water Pollution From Fracking III. The Cost of Living Increase

# 1 - Third (Major) Problem: The paper does not present two sides of the same issue: II. Water Pollution From Fracking A. People upset over the chemicals being mixed B. Not showing much care III. The Cost of Living Increase A. The landlords rising their cost B. The tenants suffering

# 2 – List the issues that are implied by this outline. I. Introduction: Many people have different views about…. II. Is the gas industry helping or hindering Pennsylvania A. Yes, it is helping create jobs in Pennsylvania B. It is hindering by contaminating Pennsylvania drinking water III. Gas drilling in Pennsylvania state parks A. Gas companies should not be able to drill B. The gas companies have the law on their side IV. Conclusion

# 2 - Issues & Problems  There are four issues: 1. Creates jobs 2. Contaminates drinking water 3. State Parks (Aren’t they part of Pennsylvania?) 4. Have the law on their side  The topic is too broad, and as a result the paper will not even come close to discussing two sides of each issue.

# 3 - For MP # 3 Brainstorm for at least three issues, but keep your eye on breaking larger issues into smaller ones. Break the following into smaller issues:  Students’ choices  Drilling is creating jobs in Pennsylvania.  Drilling is polluting the water in PA.  School lunch programs are beneficial.  CFL’s are a good idea.
