Unique opportunities in the Intellectual Property profession Friendship, profession, knowledge

The most practical way to – meet colleagues from any part of the world and to make life-long friends in the IP profession; – pick up the essence of professional communication and attitude; – be personally involved in international normative work and harmonization in the IP field is to attend to an international event of AIPPI.

Main meetings of AIPPI –A Congress is scheduled every two years and is attended by about members with accompanying persons. –A Forum (and an Executive Committee Meeting) is held every other year. –The Congresses are open for members only, while the Forums are also open to non-members paying an extra fee. The main meetings provide educational programs as well as networking among participants. Cultural programs and a gala dinner are also included to offer events of a relaxed atmosphere. –AIPPI Symposia and National Groups' Events are also regularly organized around the world.

Meetings already scheduled –42nd World Intellectual Property Congress Paris, France, October 3-6, 2010 –Forum & Executive Committee Meeting Hyderabad, India, October 13-19, 2011 –43rd World Intellectual Property Congress Seoul, Rep. of Korea, 2012 –Forum & Executive Committee Meeting Finland, Helsinki, 2013 –44th World Intellectual Property Congress Toronto, Canada, 2014 –45th World Intellectual Property Congress Milan, Italy, 2016

Networking –There are substantial opportunities for networking between members of AIPPI in its meetings. Personal contacts not only promote the business of AIPPI members but more valuably contribute to make friends in the international profession. –The members of AIPPI are professionals actively involved in intellectual property protection on a national or international level. They include corporations, lawyers, patent attorneys, trademark agents, judges, scientists and engineers. –AIPPI is organized into 64 National and one Regional Groups and membership is obtained by joining one of these Groups. In countries where no Group exists, membership is obtained as an Independent Member in the international organization.

Professional knowledge AIPPI conducts extensive, in-depth study and international discussion of issues in the IP world. –Working Committees are formed to study each pending Question; –National Groups prepare their individual reports on the Questions; –a Summary Report is synthesized from the Group Reports; –the Working Committees prepare draft Resolutions and Reports which are then discussed at Congresses and Executive Committee Meetings; –when a consensus is achieved, a draft Resolution is prepared for adoption by the Executive Committee; –In the discussions four languages can be used (English, French, German and Spanish) and simultaneous translations are provided from and into these four languages; –AIPPI's Resolutions are also published in four languages (English, French, German and Spanish) and supplied to WIPO, WTO and national patent and trade mark offices around the world. At the same time, a Congress or a Forum includes workshops which offer valuable educational programs for participants.

AIPPI –is the world's leading International Organization dedicated to the development and improvement of intellectual property; –currently has almost 9000 Members representing more than 100 countries; –dates back to 1897; –has adopted more than 700 internationally acknowledged Resolutions and Reports.

Some important examples of AIPPI's achievements are as follows: –Promotion of Revisions of the Paris Conventions leading to enormous improvement in the protection of industrial property during the 20th century. –The establishment of the Trade Marks Law Treaty. –The passing of Resolutions (such as the test for the Experimental Use exception in patent law) which are cited as authority on what the law should be in some jurisdictions. –Delegations of AIPPI are established as active participants in all major international and regional discussions on intellectual property law projects - like Patent Law Treaty, European Community Patent Convention, Directive of the European Union on Biotechnology, the Hague Agreement and the Madrid Protocol.

Become part of the premiere international IP association, become an active member of AIPPI! If you are interested in becoming an active member, AIPPI cordially invites you to join the National or Regional Group in your country.
