Step one: Text A Our College (1)  1. Reading the article in teams. The students are asked to read the text together in teams. They may discuss the problems if any at this time.  2. Step one: Text A Our College (2) Notes : 1). We ’ ve a couple of students from the United States. “ A couple of ” means “ several; some ” A couple of students have seen this film. 2). I wonder if you could tell me something about the college. Can you tell me something about the college? Could you tell me something about the college? I wonder if you could tell me something about the college. Other examples: I wonder if you could find us a book on computer science. I wonder if you could help me sort out these tapes.

If completed, the sentence would be ‘ I ’ d be glad to tell you something about the college. ’ I spoken English we normally prefer contractions like ‘ I ’ d ’, ‘ you ’ re ’ ‘ doesn ’ t he ’, ‘ he ’ s gone ’, etc. But in formal written English we do not normally use contractions. 4. Reading aloud. Ask the students to read the text again together in teams.

2. Explanation to the article. (1) Explain the article sentence by sentence. Meanwhile, the students are asked to explain or translate some sentences to check their understanding. 1). A library is a collection of books. collection n. group of objects that have been collected systematically 一系列搜集物；收藏品 e.g. a fine collection of paintings 精美的绘画收藏品 a collection of poems 诗集 2). They are arranged in alphabetical order according to the author ’ s surname. 根据作者的姓氏，这些书按字母顺序排列。 Order n. way you place things or people 顺序；次序 e.g. He wrote the words in alphabetical order. 他按字母的先后把单词写下。 He is the tenth in order. 按顺序他是第十个。

Step three: Vocabulary in Exercises About exercise 7, ask the students from each team to fill the blanks, and try to translate them into Chinese. As to exercise 9, ask the students to rewrite the sentences using the expressions given below. This exercise aims to check the students ’ understanding of the expressions in the box.
