What Burnt Offerings Have For Us Today
Presentation transcript:

 Malachi 1:6, ESV “A son honors his father, and a servant his master. If then I am a father, where is my honor? And if I am a master, where is my fear? says the L ORD of hosts to you, O priests, who despise my name. But you say, ‘How have we despised your name?’

 Exodus 20:12, ESV “ Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land that the LORD your God is giving you.

 Matthew 15:4, ESV For God commanded, ‘Honor your father and your mother,’ and, ‘Whoever reviles father or mother must surely die.’

 Hebrews 12:9, ESV Besides this, we have had earthly fathers who disciplined us and we respected them. Shall we not much more be subject to the Father of spirits and live?

 7 By offering polluted food upon my altar. But you say, ‘How have we polluted you?’ By saying that the L ORD 's table may be despised.  8 When you offer blind animals in sacrifice, is that not evil? And when you offer those that are lame or sick, is that not evil?

 Present that to your governor; will he accept you or show you favor? says the L ORD of hosts. 9 And now entreat the favor of God, that he may be gracious to us. With such a gift from your hand, will he show favor to any of you? says the Lord of hosts.

 “Learning to honor our human fathers helps us appreciate and honor our Heavenly Father.”

 10 Oh that there were one among you who would shut the doors, that you might not kindle fire on my altar in vain! I have no pleasure in you, says the L ORD of hosts, and I will not accept an offering from your hand.

 Honorable dads teach what is right to their children.  Proverbs 6:20, ESV My son, keep your father 's commandment, and forsake not your mother's teaching.

 11 For from the rising of the sun to its setting my name will be great among the nations, and in every place incense will be offered to my name, and a pure offering. For my name will be great among the nations, says the Lord of hosts.

 Honorable dads live in a way as to have a good name.  Proverbs 22:1, ESV A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches, and favor is better than silver or gold.

 12 But you profane it when you say that the Lord's table is polluted, and its fruit, that is, its food may be despised. 13 But you say, ‘What a weariness this is,’ and you snort at it, says the L ORD of hosts.

 Honorable dads teach obedience by not rebelling against God’s teaching.  1 Samuel 15:23, ESV For rebellion is as the sin of divination, and presumption is as iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the LORD, he has also rejected you from being king.”

 You bring what has been taken by violence or is lame or sick, and this you bring as your offering! Shall I accept that from your hand? says the L ORD.

 14 Cursed be the cheat who has a male in his flock, and vows it, and yet sacrifices to the Lord what is blemished. For I am a great King, says the L ORD of hosts, and my name will be feared among the nations.

 Honorable dads willingly give their best to God.  Proverbs 11:24, ESV One gives freely, yet grows all the richer; another withholds what he should give, and only suffers want.

 There are dads who live honorably.  Honoring dads helps us learn to honor Father God.  Honorable dads teach what is right to their children.
