The Soviet Union hoped to spread communism and the United States was in favor of capitalism and democracy. This race to control countries was called the Cold War and the U.S. used a policy called containment.

The Purpose of the Truman Doctrine was to give aid to countries fighting against Communism. The Marshall Plan gave aid to help Western European countries recover from war.

Some women would be okay with giving up their job, they were happy the war was over. Other women would be upset with the Government and want to keep their jobs.

Truman issued an executive order because it was not fair to treat African-Americans differently and because Congress would not have passed a law.
